Source confirms Charlie Morton has a two-year, $30 million deal with the Rays with an option for 2021. @JeffPassan had the deal first.

So 2 years, plus an option.

Good for Chuck Salt

Yeah I was figuring that he would assume the Peacock/McHugh fireman role

Well still probably sign like Lance Lynn

I would be disgusted if we got him as our biggest rotation addition. Don't like that.

Is Cleveland really in sell mode?

Morton just signed for two years, $15M per.
Kluber is signed through 2021, with $17.5, $17.5, $18M on his deal.

Make it happen.

Didn’t I read where his wife and kids live in FL?

No. His family lives in Delaware. Where his wife is from so she has her parents close during the season.

I’m pretty pissed about this. I don’t feel like this would have been unreasonable for us to pay and we could keep mchugh in the bullpen. Letting Morton go and putting mchugh in the rotation is detrimental to the rotation AND the pen.

Free agent starter Charlie Morton and the Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a two-year, $30 million deal, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Good for Morton. Hate to see him go but I understand us not committing to two years. Will always be one my favorite Astros.

I mean it doesn’t actually have to be Lynn, but I would be SHOCKED if we got a high end starter this offseason

The frustrating thing about this is that I had kinda taken Morton as being a formality to be in our rotation. I agree that we couldnt give the third year but if that was going to be a sticking point we needed to go harder after eovaldi/Corbin.

Now we are left with Keuchel, Lynn, Matt Harvey, Mike Fiers ETA not even lynn now with him signing with Texas

Pretty much HAVE to trade for Bum or a cleveland guy at this point........or Thor

Would still like a deal for Robbie Ray

There’s some good options who are very available for trade and won’t cost a ton if we aren’t going to get one of the Indians guys or Bumgarner

I was 50% serious about Harper and Thor.

I know pretty much everyone here is against signing Harper for more than a few reasons, but can you imagine the hype within the Astros fanbase? How much of a boost in ticket sales do you think we'd get? Man, its hard not to dream.

Marlins rule 5 drafted Riley Ferrell. Our #17 prospect I think.

Farm guys is this a bad loss?

He struggled pretty good in AAA last year, righted the ship towards the end of the season.

Honestly are pitching depth in the minors is so good, it won’t hurt at all
