It isn’t about him making errors or his fielding percentage at 2B, it’s that his range sucks. He is not good at 2B. That said he appears to be much worse in LF and is probably blocking one of our more promising younger players now

My all-time favorite player. Those 92 and 93 Blue Jays teams were pretty salty.

Hope the DAT elders don’t revoke my runner-up in last year’s DAT Rookie of the Year award voting.

I went and looked it up. Altuve actually led the league in Fielding % in 2024 - .989% (5 charged errors in 475 opportunities). Him leading the league was actually a shock to me, and I'm sure to many of you as well

Fielding percentage doesn't tell the full story. It's not the plays he makes. He's not booting a bunch of balls or throwing them away for errors. It's the plays he doesn't make. He's got poor range, he doesn't make elite defensive plays.

Go back to the wild card game where we got eliminated. This feels like a play a good defensive 2nd baseman makes right?

Potentially a double play with a great play but at least 1 out from a solid defensive 2nd baseman. Tigers were able to take an extra base which played big in the next at bat where a wild pitch brought that runner home to tie the game.

Fully agree with you guys that his range isn't there, and it does end up costing the team runs - he is serviceable 2B with limited range at his age. But his 2B skills are far superior to his OF skills given his inexperience, height, and weak arm

The idea was he may be bad at 2nd base and bad in LF but the bad in LF would be less frequently exposed than at 2nd. Of course that premise relies on him being able to complete the basics in LF like catching the easy fly balls. Not a guarantee from what we've seen. If he can't do that, then he does become a bigger liability for us in the OF than his limited range at 2nd.

So ESPN has the Rangers as the overwhelming favorite to win the AL West with the Mariners 2nd.

What did the Rangers do this off-season? I don't recall anything notable happening.

Another new city connect has leaked. Our new one may be a little boring but count your blessings it's not some shite like this. They could have gotten stupid with ours, they didn't.

Healthy deGrom, added Joc Pederson, probably hanging on a jump for Langford and full year of Jung. Replaced Lowe with Burger who just mashes balls. There’s a ton of swing and miss in their lineup but a lot of dudes how hit the piss out of the ball.

Their pitching has some upside ig with Leiter and Rocker but that bullpen is arse. As long as their lineup stays healthy it’s probably better than average. With any team they’ll need a lot to click right. I’m not super high on their position player group so I don’t see how there is separation among any of the top three teams.

Mariners are always going to be a wild card just because it’s a shove fest every time they take the field. Julio could singlehandedly win the division maybe if he goes off and does something insane like 40/40.

Today, homer obviously but trying to see all sides, Astros are probably more balanced but the other two teams may have an ability to hit a gear a notch higher with health and career years. Truly a toss up division.
