Happy New Year, y'all! I'm a few days late, but I guess we will see if the Astros bring us anything else new.

Christmas was fun with a 2 year old!

Just read an opinion piece about Astros signing Bregman to a 7 year 175 M deal

That’s an interesting proposition

How would we feel about that?

Too long and would age poorly, but interesting anyway

Big thing is you hope for years 1-4 he continues as a 4+ WAR type player then years 5-6 you hope he is a 2-3 WAR type player before falling off
Personally I think Bregman can do it because of his defense keeping him above a 1 WAR player and his offense providing the rest.

Who is moving to the OF? I think the deal is fair and probably close to what he gets but they have clearly moved on

I’d much rather spend that money on a much smaller 3 year deal for Profar or little bit smaller 4 year deal for Santander at this point. I was all for bringing back Bregs but they had to do their business. They even left the door open with the trade (since they’re clearly fine playing Paredes at either corner) and he didn’t bite

I saw the KPRC guy threw cold water on the Santander thing which isn’t surprising, but if they were to make another real addition in the OF I think we would have upgraded the 1-9

Maybe, just maybe, the market for Bregman isn’t as hot as he and Boras would have us believe.

A Boras client overshooting his market and remaining unsigned well into the off season? This is unprecedented.

And yet people will still consider the Astros as the bad guy. Boras is a mother fricking COCK SUCKER.

A new prediction is for Bregman to sign a 6-year, $165 million contract with the Red Sox. Considering state taxes, that would be less take-home pay than the offer he had from Houston.

Oh, he will regret it.

Sad thing is, he had Springer and Correa show him what lies ahead

But in his case, his wife and kids really miss out from these years at home

Especially when the Astros made a real offer to him

We really don't know if they regret it. I doubt that Springer does. He and his wife's family are both from the northeast. I don't think he ever even considered staying.

Correa may regret it a little. He and Daniella really liked Texas and Houston. I still think he may own a home here. I know they visit a lot as the McCullars are their best friends (Godparents of their oldest.)

I don't see how his wife and kids will miss out at all. They already don't live in Houston anymore and it doesn't look like they intend to do so. They will have a place for the season whever he ends up. New England summers are super nice. I bet Boston would be fun.

I also think most of the 2017 Astros want to get far away from the organization and the scandal. Altuve was the one who didn't cheat and he is the one still here. He believes in his legacy. Bregs wife and kids will be wherever he is and travel to the games a lot like many of the families do. It will only matter in the fall and spring when Knox starts to school in a 3-4 years. If kind of doesn't matter where you live if you can afford to charter a jet to go wherever you want. His family doesn't fly commerical.

Didn’t see that one coming…I woulda thought he chases a ring or retires

Now he’s going to be in a division against the Dodgers and Padres lineups while making a handful of starts in Coors Field

It's a good home ballpark for him with the big yard, cool bay air and his flyball tendencies. But they should do everything possible to avoid him pitching at Coors
