Agree on all counts. Does it keep them from addressing catcher at all though? Or maybe open the door to a CF addition? Just really don't like the idea of going into the season with Chas/Jake and Maldy as your best option at 8-9. You're one injury away from a shallow lineup. I'd like to see one of those addressed, even if it's just a platoon partner for Chas.
I'd also like to echo the sentiments you baws have expressed on JV. TYFYS and for not signing with NYY/LAD. Good luck

Just spit balling here and have no idea what kind of contracts they are looking for but could we go Ben Nintendo and re-sign Vasquez? Could be a cheaper Contreras as far as back up C and DH when Yordan is in left. Maybe someone could force FODB to platoon him with Maldy more

I'd make a run at some combo of Nimmo/Benintendi and Vazquez/Contreras plus take a look at Bassitt/Walker (not Christian) for SP depth.

A counter to that is that our best international (aka Latin) buys tend to be on the cheap where the bonus money total means little.

The contract that the Phillies just gave for a SS makes me love Jeremy Pena even that much more.

We're gonna need Ryno to scout us up some Sugarland talent to replace Pena when he comes due, b/c with contracts getting this absurd, we will eventually run out of core players

Agreed, but a lot of his value is based on his speed

I don’t see Turner aging well. 36% chase rate this year also, high for his career but still that’s terrible. He’s never been a great defender so he may have to move off short quicker than people think. He’s great right now but unless he changes who he is as a player it might be ugly when the foot and bat speed goes

I think the big issue with Vazquez is that he wants an everyday catcher role and should get that somewhere.
I know the Maldy hate here, but considering what every person that isn't just a fan says, it must not be as bad as we think.
I think Contreras wants more money that everyone has wanted to give. Chicago thought he was worth more, too. That's why they ended up not trading him.
You know they want Contreras as a possible LF as well. Not sure if he is interested in that.
JV was awesome! Will miss looking forward to JV day.
