Urquidy, Whitley, Chas, Jake and Corey Lee

I loved his progression in '21
Right now he's a 4th OF at best
Odds are getting long

However signing JV probably means a trade of one of the other pitchers which could land a bat although not a huge name.
I have a name for you all.

I still say that at the reported numbers you let JV walk. I'm still a fan of the 6 man rotation that helps when someone gets hurt.
1. Valdez
2. Javier
3. LMJ
4. Lunch Lady
5. Urquidy
6. Brown
You keep Lance's innings down and ease Brown into the rotation. That's impressive young depth. If Whitley becomes half what he was supposed to be that's still a serviceable starter too.
Pitching wins in October and it's hard to argue with what they have even though statistically the bullpen will have to regress.
Centerfield isn't the spot that worries me, a Chas and Jake platoon can work. Heck half the AL center fielders in the playoffs last year were ex Astros, the farm system is working.
Catcher needs to be addressed but that's been the case for 30 years.
Lock up 1B and CF DH and go repeat. Right now this team has enough where you're retooling, not rebuilding.

Healthy Jake Meyers with a normal offseason and spring training? Yes, I'm ready to roll with him.
Bookmarked.

You keep Lance's innings down when he inevitably goes on the IL and Brown steps in.

LMJ's continuous evolution should lead to an Odorizzi role, followed by set up man
His 12-6 breaker is long gone along with his UCL
He can't trust location on his FB enough to use it.
The writing is on the wall. Innings will never be his friend

All of this. He just doesn’t have swing and miss stuff anymore. I’d be very surprised if his best days aren’t behind him.

Put a fork In him. Good thing is we only owe him 50 mill.

I've always wondered what the trade market for LMJ would be.

Just no.
He has been nothing but trouble and injuries. Too late. If anyone is willing to give us something halfway decent for him, we should offload that problem.

It's a job. Why in the world would anyone expect someone to not take that kind of an increase if you can get it?
This is a lot less about what he can or will do from my perspective. More to do with keeping this team's competitive balance.
We can afford to be sentimental about re-signing Yuli, and I even think we can also do the same for Brantley
Verlander is an entirely different discussion. What my comments are based on is the fact that with the tax implications surrounding his next deal, we will definitely know if all things being equal, he wants to truly be in Houston and how much he values that
IMO, that would still be too much to offer, but also IMO, it's a moot point

Not saying I want to pay JV 3/130 but I do think it’s rolling the dice to go with the 6 guys we have if you have an opportunity to get JV back and you say no.
Framber - as others have mentioned, groundball pitcher and TBD how shift affects him
Lance - no faith in him staying healthy for a full season as a starter
Javier - never pitched a full season as a starter
Brown - first full season as a starter is likely to be inconsistent and they’ll want to limit his innings

Don't forget Urquidy and Garcia. That's two more MOR starters. Either re-sign JV and trade Urquidy and/or Garcia for a bat, or let him walk and spend that money on a big bat.

Wow Mariners just traded Kyle Lewis to the dbacks.
Which is bizarre cause he was good and the dbacks have a ton of young OF guys and prospects
Glad to see Lewis out of the division though
