I rather ride with Jake and chas again. Both are young and shown they can be 250 major league hitters with good defense.

Solid enough option to go spend money on a 1B

Feels weird to say this but I'd almost be relieved if somebody gave JV some crazy deal, and then we could spend that money on the lineup.

Frambaw and Javi are ready to headline the rotation.

Use the $$ toward a solid outfielder that can hit, and try to sure up one more utility player that can hit and maybe a DH.

Verlander is not worth 40M a year unless one a one year deal.

Do the Astros need Verlander to get to the postseason? Absolutely not. And we know he's unreliable once he gets there. Idiotic to shell out 35 or 40 million and hamstring yourself from improving the true areas of need.

Crane is a bigger dumbass than we ever knew if he let's springer walk but offers the bank to Verlander at 40yo.

I actually feel like Crane has already had that conversation.

If something had been in the works, there would be no need for Verlander to officially decline his option

Things we know for certain are that the Astros will be in the playoffs regardless, and that his WS record is not good

If Brown further develops his control, he can't do worse than 1-6 in 9 starts

Crane may have told JV to see what’s out there and bring that number/years back. Not saying he gets that number/years from the Astros but I would suspect he’d give the Astros a chance to match if the relationship between Crane and JV is really that good.

As for Brantley, I agree with wahoocs that Brantley as a full-time DH would be good. I just don’t know if the Astros view the DH spot being manned by someone who does it on a full-time basis. I hope I’m wrong and that they get Brantley or a bigger bat to mostly DH.

And they still need a first baseman, preferably one who can rake.

Why would anyone have faith in brantley staying healthy at his age coming of two injuries this year? I don't get it.

Would love to see us go big at 1B for someone like Abreu and then resign Brantley (assuming he's healthy and not expensive) as a DH.

It'll obviously be this, and while I like most people here am not a Moldy guy, I'm fine with this and let Lee catch a bit behind him to see what he's got.

I'm on Rizzo too. He's such a pesky at bat. Rizzo and Bregs back to back could run up some pitch counts

The best news of all is that Dusty is coming back.

Altuve/Rizzo/Breggy/Yed/Peña/Ted would be fun.

Or however Dusty fricks it up.

Plus he’s had success at Minute Maid specifically. Some opponents just come into that park and do all kinds of damage. He’s one of them.

Totally agree. I see many saying to bring him back, but it doesn’t make sense to me.

The banning of the shift will help Rizzo tremendously. One of the reasons I really want him. His averages have been consistently low because his BABIP has been incredibly low due to being so pull heavy. Won’t matter nearly as much next season. He’s the ideal Brantley replacement next year I think despite playing a different spot and we can afford him. Maybe take a flier on someone cheaper for the OF (or try to trade a starter for another OF if we bring JV back) and let Hensley Diaz take those at bats.

Bring Brantley back if he wants to be back and takes a team friendly deal. If he wants to go to the highest bidder, then GL&TYFYS.

I’m ready to move on from the old guys who will either get injured or fall off in performance. So sayonara to yuli, JV and Brantley. I’d re-sign Montero and Aledmys, and while I’d rather have Vasquez than Maldonado, we can’t keep both and Maldy under contract so he stays.

Team friendly for me would mean nothing guaranteed, not 1 penny. That's how much faith I have in him being healthy.

No way will JV seriously entertain going to NYY. He is not going to put himself and his family in that environment that had Yankees stars getting booed by their own fans. That's just something I don't think he would consider in the twilight of his career.
