That’s pretty tough for a guy starting a contract at 40 years old.

I think Crane wants someone like Contreras or Abreu, and at least the former can play 1B/C

We already have our 1B/C...Moldynachos! Never forget that Dusty has played him at first before

Doesn’t his declination get us a draft pick if he ends up signing elsewhere or is that under a different status situation?

No they gave him a qualifying offer last year so he can’t get one this year

Yes, but the list of teams he would play for much shorter

As you know, he is well aware of his place in history and Wins is something he must have

He doesn't have time to wait on even a light rebuild

Dodgers and Mets might be the only fit

Yeah I don’t think he’s headed anywhere. The national writers speculating the Rangers as a fit is amusing

Astros Yankees Mets are the primary teams I see as a fit, maybe Atlanta if they are interested or Toronto. I think being with a Florida spring training team is a priority since they live there now (that was the rumor last year at least)

Kate Upton seem pretty content on her career but i doubt Houston is where she sees herself.

They are going to humor New York and LA

I don’t think they care much about that. Not like she’s living here anyways.

Yes, but he wants to get to 300 wins, so he's not going to a mediocre team like the Cubs.

I think there are 4 main options. Houston, as we have been willing to pay the man in the past. Dodgers, ugh, but they are losing Heaney and Anderson and have no shortage of money or wins. Yankees, obviously, although if they do re-sign Judge I think it's less likely. Mets, who I think are the second most likely after the Astros. They are potentially losing deGrom, Bassitt, and Walker and even if they bring back deGrom they can afford to pay JV.

Dark horses... the Padres or Giants want to make a splash. JV's pitching style is well suited to both places.

Isn’t the kid like 2 or 3 years old?

I’m sure they spend plenty of time here during the season and I know he has a house here as well. Just don’t think the city the team is located in matters all that much. Most of these guys (including him) spend their time in Florida or Arizona where they train

ya, all I am saying is that they are here enough to have a preschool and social circles.

which is more than i would have ever thought when we traded for JV

Agreed. Wins and another possible WS are the only things important to JV at this time. I think he truly wants to chase the 300 win mark. He got 18 in 2022. 18 for 3 more years, gets him 300. He's going to want 3 years, or at least 2 with an opt in/out for him.

I also really don't see him as a Yankee or Dodger. I think he and Kate have done the LA thing and the celebrity thing and just don't want to deal with that now. Atlanta could be a possibility if he thinks they get him the wins. But he needs great defense to get the wins. That's what makes Houston such a good fit for him.

JV would be a fool to go play his home games in Mickey Mouse Ballpark.

Atlanta isn't spending the money on JV. They've invested too much into their core and probably will be hunting a SS whether it's Swanson coming back or one of the other FAs.

Preschool. She's just turning 4 in November. She doesn't do to kindergarten for 2 more years. So yeah, preschool, little activities, but not anything super major.

I think Kate and JV like to be a family and fly under the radar now. They've already done the celebrity and fame stuff.

Yeah I don’t see Atlanta being interested. They will go for DeGrom if they’re gonna play in that market (and similar to us they don’t need to if they don’t want to since they are stacked). But if they were I could see that being a really attractive option for him

Lot of interesting decisions to make this off-season.

- Does Crane bring back Click?
- Do you work a deal for Verlander and limit the amount you have to spend to upgrade the offense.
- Do you try to bring back Brantley and Yuli or is their injury status and age too much risk to incur?
- Do we try to upgrade an outfield spot? Are there any free agents worth pursuing in this area or are we gonna have to trade someone?
- What do we do at Catcher? Ride with maldy and bank on Lee progressing to an acceptable level or go after a bonafide guy?
