The difference is we don't have srikeout's on top of strikeouts like years past.

Previous lineups included Springer, Rasmus, Carter, Valbuena, and Gomez -- all High K% guys.

Springer and Gonzalez have lowered their K% this year and it has dramatically improved getting Valbuena and Gomez out of the lineup completely.

I think if Lance can control the adrenaline in inning 1 he will be okay. He comes out charged up for weekday games in July though so we will see.

Mostly like others said I want him to come out attacking with the fastball and not just throwing curve after curve

Correct they have been

Gray's one game against Houston this year was June 25
Springer had the big hit against . him, he went 5 innings allowed 7 hits, 5 runs, 5 strikouts, and 4 walks

So what did Lance McCullers do in his outing against the Red Sox to convince the Astros to give him the ball today? Ditch both the four-seamer and change-up.

Curve
Curve
Curve
Fastball out of the zone
Curve
Curve
Curve

That quote from the article implies that he's being rewarded with a start for using the pitching pattern I posted. That seems counter intuitive.

I haven't been to a ballgame since shea stadium in the 90s...Orlando merced was playing for the pirates it's been so long.

so for the stros fans, section 116 like row 10ish...good or no good

I think in that game we jumped on him for 5 runs in the first and then he followed up with 4 shutout innings after that.

And if you ask any of us right now if we'd take that again this afternoon, the answer would be hell yeah we would.

It's not because he's throwing his 2 seamer and Curve, which aren't pitches that typically get hit hard off of him.

The 4 seamer and curve both have a .400+ wOBA this year.

He's basically become a reliever and with the Yanks' power from the right side, the 2 seamer/curve will work will against that.

ETA: The article is basically saying that even though the results didn't show it, he managed contact well against the Red Sox

Yeah, I've sat down there before... depending on which end of the row you sit you can talk shite to the batters in the on-deck circle. You don't even have to be loud and you can be heard on the TV broadcast.

Not going to say it's impossible, but it is highly improbable. We've had a historic offense this year.

That's good to hear. We'll see.

It's funny how often teams change personalities once in the playoffs. That's why they say that the team that wins the WS is the team that gets hot in the playoffs, not the team that's hot BEFORE the playoffs.

Regardless of how Gray has done vs. the Astros in the past, and how mediocre Gray has been since he became a Yankee, I think we can all agree on this: the Yankees traded for Sonny Gray to win this game today. That is why he is there. His less than stellar September and his first start vs. the Indians in the playoffs all become secondary if he wins today.

He has a similar ERA to what he had with the A's this year

He was, the Yankees need that 2013 postseason showing to come back. He was brought in to win the postseason not be a #4

Exactly. He has Ace level stuff. It's just a matter if he can perform at an Ace level.

This is such a strange game to try to predict... it could be LMJ and Gray get into another pitcher's duel where they both are pitching way above their skill levels and shutdown the offenses.

Or, we could be in for a Pearl harbor level barrage of bombs into the stands.

My son's coach-pitch baseball tournament starts at 5 today. Not sure how the league will feel when I have my phone on the mound pitching to my team.

I think we have another good game... I like the way the Yankees have pitched and look forward to Dallas vs Tanaka R2... eventually the Yankees have to solve Dallas

Yankees also have two more years of Gray before he's a free agent. With their team they have a good shot at being back in this position and Gray could be a big part of it.
