i just rewatched the soto At bat for the first time just to see if it was as bad as i remembered. The 2-1 "ball" should be exhibit A on why robo umps are needed. Perfect pitch in the zone sent our world series hopes down the pisser

Worst part about this trade is all the lineups with Maldonado at C and Dubon in CF we'll be force fed

@Feinsand

As it was explained to me today, for luxury tax purposes, any money the Mets send the Astros to pay down Verlander contract is treated identically to having that money on their payroll. So if they’re sending $54M to HOU as reported, those are taxable payroll dollars for the Mets.

Jake is the 4th outfielder, it appears.

Still time to find a left-handed bat to replace Julks.

We paid Verlander something like $50 M to start one game in 2 seasons, IIRC

I guess Yordan sitting for 2 months wasn’t enough rest.

So, we basically gave up a #1 pick for a substantially discounted Verlander for the rest of his career.

I realize this excludes Clifford.

If the Mets are willing to spend for prospects like this, they should've just gone over slot throughout the draft and loaded up on prospects and forced MLB to rewrite the rules

No reason not to shed Myers or julks for a comparable LH OF.

Yeah. And getting him for: The Astros, then, would be on the hook for only $39MM in total between now and 2025

The tail end of his career, even in decline is good value at less than $18mm/yr. Sucks to give up 2 strong looking prospects though.

You lose draft picks for doing that not just money

Dubon in CF we'll be force fed

Dubon of today isn't the Dubon of last year. If we can just get Crusty to put McCormick in left if he insists on Dubon in center...it would be a win. Dubon isn't our worst batter. I'd rather see him batting than Julks or Meyers.

Now Moldy...that's a separate problem.

I guess since Yordan played left field and made that throw into 2nd, he needs rest. That homer was just too much work for him.

Will never be solved. He can only retire.

This is wrong. Sorry. Dubon, who is at his best this year, is a worse hitter (OBP and OPS) than Jake and about even with Julks, a rookie with more potential at the plate. Dubon is a nice utility backup, not a guy who should be getting many outfield starts.
