Okay I'm back to reasonable thoughts now. Honestly we needed bullpen help but you shred down to a 4 man rotation for the playoffs and add Morton + the cock to the pen helps alot.

Ken
Harris
Devo
Cock
Morton
Liriano

He's hit 98 this year so it's possible his stuff could play up out of the pen. I'm just completely skeptical of throwing a struggling starter into the pen mid season and expecting some miraculous turn around.

BTW, why is Tony Sipp still around?

We should've picked up one of the 2nd tier relievers along with Liriano. I said we needed 2 arms and we got a suspect 1. But I'm not ready to declare the season over either. I'm most pissed that tonight will be the 4th straight game I can't watch

Oh it's definitely a wildcard, which is why I like it as a second move if you get an established guy. He's a total unknown as a reliever

Ken - OK but a little scary to watch
Harris - Hurt
Devo - Losing confidence
Cock - Good
Morton - Wild card out of the bullpen
Liriano - another Wild Card out of the pen

I feel pretty good about Morton out of the pen. He's got good swing and miss stuff. His issues usually come after seeing lineup multiple times through

Liriano is better than Sipp, so I guess that's the silver lining here. But yeah I don't see how you can allow that to be the only deal you make. Our bullpen is imploding and our starters are still trying to get healthy. He was just scared of ending up on the losing end of a deal again I guess.

This point alone is where Luhnow's work this month should be graded as a failure. At least get one proven rental reliever like Reed or Kintzler as another option. It really is inexcusable that he didn't.

When being interviewed, players were heard shouting about their division lead in the background. Yes that's it... get complacent. Pathetic

Kintzler would have been great.

Hell, Dan Jennings from the Sox is under club control and went to the Rays a few days ago for practically nothing

Yep. If we have a 7 man pen in October it's probably

Giles
Harris
Devo
Peacock
Liriano
Morton or Fiers
Gregerson? Sipp? Martes?

That last spot could be filled by Kintzler or Reed and they're a huge upgrade. And this is assuming perfect health and Harris comes back fine.

I wouldn't even let him rake the bullpen mound in October.

There is a way to handle these things at the deadline.

Early moves for depth and overall unit strengthening happen early.

The blue chips come late.

For luhnow to think that we could grab both types of guys on deadline day is just naive.

Also, can somebody explain to me what the hell Reed is doing here? Like, how does he even find any playing time?

Limited to 1B and DH. Yuli, Marwin and White can play 1st. The Corpse of Carlos Beltran is still around, Gattis is also a backup DH of sorts. I don't understand the reasoning for calling up Reed.

Exactly I posted this list earlier and it bears repeating.

Hes not a failure because he didnt get deGrom or Fulmer. Hes a failure because he didnt get any of these

Madson
Doolittle
WIlson
Kahnle
Addison reed
Neshek
Kintzler

All were had at a very reasonable price

Gregerson is just happy with not trading because they would have taken his job.
