The Royals have the third best record behind the Astros and Dodgers after the first 30 games which they went 10-20 in.

The royals are likely in the post season and may win the central.

They looked terrible at the beginning of the season and they are in 2nd in the wild card 2.5 games up on Tampa Bay, with Seattle 3.5 games behind that.

They still might NOT make the postseason...a lot of baseball left.

They didn't make the postseason last year either.

Not comparable. The talent left + the youth of the core is what makes this team special. The window is not going to close nearly as quickly as it did for Toronto and KC

I think the talent and youth in hitting is great, but I'm not convinced by the health of Keuchel and McCullers, and I don't know what pitchers we have in this organization that could make an impact even near to that level. I thought Martes would do that...but I don't have a clue what to make of his performances.

Luhnow: We tried to get a lot done today.

Exact same thing he said after last year's deadline. "We were in on several deals. Many were close. Couldn't get them across the finish line." Exact. Same. Problem.

The Yankees and Dodgers made several deals without having to give up their top line prospects. Y tú Jeff? Has to be frustrating for the players to have their GM punt at the deadline for a 2nd straight year.

Whitley and Perez are top notch pitching prospects and Martes is 21 years old. There is no shortage of position player or pitching talent which is why I was fine with giving up some to make a run this year

So what's exactly the problem? What do you think the holdup is in these trades?

At least by the time Correa returns, the offense will be a fully operational battle station:

Springer
Reddick
Altuve
Correa
Marwin
Gurriel
McGattis
Bregman
Fisher

No room at the inn for broken-down 40 year olds.

Yes. The glass half full look is that Fisher playing everyday is a big upgrade, and I think Liriano as reliever is really interesting.

But I was put in the top tier of sunshine pumpers on here, I think the same tier as Prom, and I am pretty bummed. Britton and Liriano would have been a great deadline IMO

They will make a waiver trade for a bullpen arm I'm sure.

Not that that will help things, but they'll do it just to do it.

Let's hope he comes back playing like he was before he left.

Don't know. All we're left knowing is we've got 2 years in a row where Luhnow couldn't close deals at the deadline. He's got his behind the curtain reasons why but it's not a flattering look on him.

Would a waiver deal for Verlander change how people feel or no? I think the chances it happens are very slim, but if he keeps pitching the way he has lately I think it could make a big difference.

Interesting concept, but I don't see how we wouldn't wind up taking on all of his salary.

Could send Morton and Singleton in return or something

I mean it's an upgrade but improving the offense doesn't do a whole lot for us. We're the best offense in baseball basically across the board.

Honestly, the Liriano addition doesn't really change the overall state of the bullpen either. If he's limited to a LOOGY role, it addresses a need but overall it's a minuscule part of the overall bullpen.

We'd have to pass him through waivers. That won't happen.

An upgrade is an upgrade. It still makes the team better. Liriano's stuff could play up to where he's more than just a one or two batter guy as a reliever. He's still throwing 92-93 as a starter. I like that move and think it has a lot of upside, I just wish it wasn't the only move.
