DAT 7/27: Astros (Imai) @ Angels (Urena) 8:38pm

Week in review:
- Winning record this week (5-1). Almost a double sweep
- JP3 was lights out this week; 5HR, .500BA, 8 RBI
- Bryan King sucks. Not sure why we continue to use him
- Pitching, for the most part, looked good in Miami
- Imai has looked good since returning from all-star break. 9.2IP 3ER 8H
- 2 games back in the division (and Wild Card) with a -47 run differential; big opportunity ahead with Rangers coming to town
- Trade deadline is a week from today. I am pro fire-sale. This team isn’t going to make any real noise. Prep for the lockout and build for 2028
- Rockies have advertised OF Mickey Moniak as available for trade. I like him a lot
- Red Sox inquired about Pena but was quickly shot down. Allegedly
- Chandler if you're reading this, you're still a bitch and your media credential is useless
Injury updates:
- Spaghetti; 15-day IL; right foot
- Burrows; 15-day IL; right elbow
- Wesneski; AAA assignment
- Matthews; 10-day IL; left knee sprain
Looking ahead:
3 @ Anaheim
Off Thursday
3 vs Rangers

His home/away splis scare me a bit. Plus his lefties/righties splits.
He can get hot though a carry a team for a stretch.

I would much rather have McCarthy personally

Just moving over what I posted at the tail end of the anchored DAT:

Dana brown says we're probably going to be buyers.
IF that’s the case, I’d love to seriously look at Jake McCarthy. Cheap with two more years of arbitration control and a left handed bat that would be an improvement over every OF we can throw out there not named Yordan.

Probably need two OF’s honestly. Cant keep plugging away AAAA CF’s and Lamont Wade in the middle of the order if they are serious.
They have some financial flexibility but not a lot. Chandler floated out moving off more money in Javi and Walker which would be great but idk if realistic.
A McCarthy and Senzentela package would be pretty enticing but McCarthy’s arb years could be more prospect costly.
Does a Luis Robert and Freddy Peralta or Luke Weaver package do anything for anyone? Maybe eat a little more of Robert’s money to lower the prospect cost. Think a package there would start with either Blubaugh or Spaghetti plus one of the better prospects.
Varsho is another interesting name as a rental. His power numbers are way down but he’s still much better than the in-house options at CF

Anyone think they may deal Yainer at the deadline? Catcher is popping up on a few team needs lists and we just signed that AAAA guy. We don’t have the farm to put together prospect for starter deals (which may protect Astros from themselves).

I wouldn’t mind that. I read this morning that three teams are desperately looking to obtain a catcher. With Langeliers likely out for the year now, Yainer’s value had to have increased. How significantly, I don’t know.

Yainer for Duran, who (besides Boston) says no

There are 29 fanbases that would pull up his 2023 and 2024 stats and think they can fix him. He has some value I’d think.

Hell, they might be able to. There is no telling what sort of damage the shitshow hitting coaches he has had might have done to him.
Still infuriates me what they did to Jesus Sanchez.

If they can upgrade their outfield by trading Yainer, I would not say anything bad about Dana for at least a week.

I would hope they are at least exploring it. Yainer is frustrating as hell but the bar is so low for production there I think he would still have some value. It is the type of creative thing this front office hasn’t really been able to pull off yet sadly
