Watch it be a trade for Marco Gonzales or Mike Leaked

But manageable vs. a longer deal. I don't believe that was ever the preferred option but I bet it's on the table now.

Might as well pay it since you have no intention of signing Cole. I mean that is the market for pitching and if the Astros aren't willing to pay.....

Yeah, make that deal and we’re looking at a 2+ year window, then a giant sell off that takes us back to 2012.

$35 million actually. Still kind of want.

Sort of depends on how badly the Dbacks want to get out from under some of his contract. They'd have to pitch in some money.

But the question to be asked is what would Greinke get on the free market. He's owed 2/$70M for his ages 36 and 37 seasons. Dbacks would say, Verlander just got 2/$66M for his age 37 and 38 seasons. Greinke is still pitching effectively and has the long term track record that JV does. Is 2/$70M near market value?

Well win a WS or just be good enough to get into playoffs, what do you want?

Personally I think it is for what he has done, his age obviously hurts him as we saw Dallas just struggle to get a deal close that because of it.

Based on production yes
Based off age no

Greinke would be a nice change of pace to stick in between jv and Cole

JV
ZG
GC

Better 1-3 than last year

I also think the front office would be hesitant to have $68 million locked up in a pair of 37 and 38 year old pitchers. Theres not a big injury history with either one of them but age does get to even the best of them. That's a pretty expensive risk.

There’s gotta be a few stinkers on the 40 man who can get lost. Maybe give Bukauskas or however you spell it a shot ? It doesn’t help that I figured Whitley would be up by now.

It is, but if y'all refuse to sign Cole for his 30 million then what, the other option is someone like Leaked who can eat innings. Then when you get to the playoffs hope Cole and JV can give you 7+

Nah, they’re gonna make a move for a playoff arm.

That’s a given

Greinke would be a playoff arm, Bumgarner, Stroman, Wheeler.... Those are the big ones this year

Not a great trade market for a starter this year. Those guys are...fine. Perfectly decent mid rotation guys but not aces. Which may be all the Astro need to pair with JV, Cole and the surprise in Miley.

Bum and Wheeler are rentals. I would be happy with that at their expected costs, but should Correa be involved, there’s a wider range available, some that would even eat salary.

Throw in Tucker as expendable with his value almost at peak, and the possibilities are endless. And if the rental costs stay unreasonable, the chances a big deal getting done definitely increase.

........

I 100% disagree on those guys being mid-rotation guys, they are no worse than a #2 starter all of them. Obviously going to the Astros with Verlander and Cole they would be in the 3 spot but still

Correa won't be involved in any deadline deal because the Astros have no replacement, maybe the offseason

Yeah I don’t understand the thinking that Correa would be involved with anything.

He was playing great before the injury.

Injuries have been frustrating, but he’s a key piece of a team that contends for a WS
