I pretty much agree with everything Jwho says regarding future personnel and lineup situations

Aww, you guys make me blush.

I'm glad I figured out that Ground Control password now. It's making me look so smart!

I really like Marisnick as a reserve outfielder. Good defensively and runs well so he can pinch run, and while he struggles at the plate his bat is fine as a bench guy. I think that's what he's going to settle into at some point, and it might be pretty soon on this year's team.

Once we get late in the stretch run and hopefully the playoffs I foresee many late inning Marisnick for Tucker pinch run and defensive substitutions

I don't think his bat is a good bench bat but defense and running can help late in games. I can't think of anyone on the roster I would want Jake to pinch hit for.

2016 Best Guess Roster (futile as it may be)
12 pitchers, 13 others

C - Castro, Conger
IF - Carter, Altuve, Correa, Lowrie
OF - Springer, Santana
DH - Gattis (LF or C in a pinch)
---
1B/LF/DH - Tucker
LF/CF/2B - Kemp
UTL - Villar or MarGo (or upgrade)
CF/PR - Marisnick

Just spit balling here. I also think Singleton gets traded, especially if the front office sees Tucker as a 1B option. We know already that Hinch will play dozens of lineup combos, so this group gives him plenty of options and talent.

Marisnick is 24 and has played in 167 games over 2.5 years in the majors. I think you guys are giving up on him too soon. He will be an everyday starter on a major league club somewhere.

Will it be the Astros? I don't know -- I do think the Astros are loaded with outfield everyday starter talent. Someone will be gone before next season starts.

As for Marisnick -- I like his skill set. Is he a perennial all-star? meh... most likely not. Is he an everyday starter? I think so.

I think he could be an everyday OF on a bad or average club and fits well as a reserve guy on the Astros, which is why I said I like him as that. I don't think that's giving up on him, there's plenty of value in that and he was never some top prospect that people projected for stardom.

Maybe he takes a big leap at the plate and proves me wrong but that's how I see it right now

I just realized the Astros have a third of their top 15 MLB prospects that were listed on MLB.com at the beginning of the year are now on the active MLB roster. And they are all producing.

Yet... their farm system has been over-rated.

Yeah, that seems to be who he is, as of right now.

.245/.285/.390 this year

That's what he has been so far as a big leaguer. His wRC+ (teehee) is below average. His defense is not that good to make up for it. I hope he proves us wrong again.

I wasn't big on Marisnick coming into the season and I didn't get the hype that some people were giving him. Then he had the hot April and I started to think maybe I was wrong about him. But ultimately he's settled in and played exactly like I expected him to.

I believe in the off season I called him just another toolsy out fielder who can't hit and strikes out a bunch.

Nice write up on McCullers on Grantland today, they talk about that retarded 94 mph change up he throws.

Hopefully we see efficient Lance tonight. If his control is there he can dominate.if he's walking guys and going 3-2 on every count it's a short night. All part of the process.

What happens to Valbuena in this scenario? And going back in the thread a bit, what happens to MarGo when Lowrie comes back this season?

We just about have to make moves at the deadline this year or in the offseason if for no other reason than we're going to have a surplus of MLB ready players and nowhere to put them.

Yeah, that's pretty much a given at this point.

Correa is 10 for 24 with 3 XBH and 3 SB during his current 5 game hitting streak. Only player since 1914 with at least 15 H, 5 XBH, and 5 RBI in first 10 career games
