Kiermaier would be pricey.

How about Yastrzemski? You know that would make GM Bagwell's panties moist.

Do we evaluate Altuve hitting leadoff? That was a Dusty creation. Hey man my speed guy bats first. So we ended up with a guy with 28 home runs only driving in 57 runs. Hinch used to hit him 2nd and 3rd.

I dont know if there's a more logical option though.

He had a .393 OBP in the regular season so there's no reason to make a change. Having a deeper lineup to have dudes on base in front of him more often would be nice. Not having a worthless piece of shite batting 9th will help.

Altuve
Bregman
Yed
Ted
Lemon
Chas
Diaz
Pena
CF platoon?

Excellent. Now Bregman can play with a grievance. Rangers are still a flee on the nutsack. #OpperationBTSOOTR

Sources: 10 teams right now are the strongest candidates to sign the Cuban RHP Yariel Rodríguez (26):

-Yankees
-Astros
-Rangers
-Pirates
-Dodgers
-Phillies
-Blue Jays
-White Sox
-Mets
-Giants

Waiting for free agency, Rodríguez threw 94-97 MHP in three consecutive tryouts with dominant pitches such as the curve and slider.

According to several industry experts I consulted, the belief is that Yariel will receive a multi-year contract in the range of 40-70 M.

He was a starter in the WBC but is expected to be a reliever in the majors. That's a hell of a lot of money for a reliever with no experience.

It’s a lot and I don’t love paying relievers like that. That said this dude looks absolutely disgusting

No sense giving a reliever that kind of money. Relievers are a volatile commodity. Hopefully, they learn from the Montero deal.

$40MM over 5 years, I'm ok with. Dude's stuff is Any Schumer's Arby sandwich disgusting. But I can't see them paying Montero money.

He'd be a hell of a reload from Neris though.

Abreu in the 9 slot, he needs to see better pitches with Altuve in front of him

ETA: His results over the last season also dictate the drop in the lineup

Anyone got interest in touching Chapman?

Sign Chapman and Hicks, re-sign Stanek and along with Abreu we can make up a bullpen of guys who throw 100+ without much certainty of where it's headed.

FanGraphs is estimating that the Astros arbitration players will make around $38.5M this year.

That includes Valdez, Tucker, Urquidy, Dubon, Garcia, Abreu & McCormick.

The tax threshold is $237M in 2024 and the Astros will be near $231M

Don't expect a big free agency splash.

Random thought, but how likely is it that Yainer wins ROY if he plays 150 games this season?

He was on pace for 35 HR and 90 RBI’s. That extra 1st round pic would be pretty nice for this depleted farm system.

Was he on any of the Top-100 lists? Not sure he would qualify for the extra pick.

But if’n he did, there should be a heap of mean and judgmental comments being made online by journalists and tweeterites directed at the Retiree that shall be not mentioned by name.

The thing is, other than just the obvious Bregman troll, the line doesn't make sense for them. It makes sense when you've won almost every title for years, like the Astros.

Still, frick the Rangers!

I do not want the Aroldis Chapman Experience. Why do the announcers say that anyway? I really sounds stupid.

So annoying. I’m not a luxury tax guru, but according to sportrac, the Phillies were $30MM over the tax threshold and their tax bill was $6MM. Crane needs to come off of his stance of not exceeding the threshold at all. The first tax bracket is not that steep for organization that has pocketed the revenue the Astros over the last seven years.

I think Espada is ok.

He’s likely more analytically minded than Dusty, but I feel like we need another voice in the club house

Bookmark this, here is the Astros salary for 2024 per FanGraphs.

CBT space at the bottom

Guaranteed Salaries (AAV):
-Justin Verlander: $40,555,555
-Jose Altuve: $23,357,143
-Alex Bregman: $20,000,000
-Jose Abreu: $19,500,000
-Yordan Alvarez: $19,166,667
-Lance McCullers Jr: $17,000,000
-Ryan Pressly: $15,000,000
-Cristian Javier: $12,800,000
-Rafael Montero: $11,500,000
-Kendall Graveman: $8,000,000
-Hector Neris Buyout: $1,000,000

Total: $186,879,365

Arbitration Eligible Players (estimated):
-Kyle Tucker: $12,600,000
-Framber Valdez: $12,100,000
-Jose Urquidy: $3,500,000
-Chas McCormick: $3,100,000
-Mauricio Dubon: $3,100,000
-Luis Garcia: $2,100,000
-Bryan Abreu: $2,000,000

Total: $38,500,000

Pre-arbitration Players:
-Jake Meyers, Jeremy Peña, Hunter Brown, Yainer Diaz, JP France, etc.: $11,840,000

Payroll for 2024 (Scroll down for CBT):
-211,609,365
(Subtract $26,250,000 towards JV from the Mets in 2024)

Other Costs:
-Estimated salaries for 40-man minor leaguers: $2.5M
-Player benefits: $17,000,000
-League pre-arbitration bonus: $1,666,667

Total Estimated Luxury Tax Payroll:
-$232,776,032

CBT Threshold: $237M

The Astros are $4,223,968 under the CBT!!!

Houston has 4.2M to spend on relievers and Diaz's backup if Jim Crane wants to stay under the Luxury Tax.

Guess what.. he does want to stay under.

I think we've got to talk about adjusting expectations for thr off season. We've already got Dana Brown talking about losing and replacing all the bullpen free agents and potentially replacing from within. That basically leaves backup catcher as the lone slot to fill. Salazar can do that for as cheap as it gets and Crane doesn't have to spend money on anything

We really need to salary dump McCullers, Abreu, Montero and Graveman. That's $56 million right there tied up in what? Dump 50% of their salaries and free up $28 million right there.
