All of this talk could wait until the postseason is over. He could answer these questions by saying, “We’ll address those things after the season is over.”

He might like blue and orange pinstripes but the Mets have a shortstop and an expensive one in Francisco Lindor. Someone would have to move, especially in the NL with no DH.

The fact that anyone honestly believes crane and his BS is laughable. Correa knows and says it plainly here. Dude thinks like an owner.

Astros don't operate by handing out these kind of deals.

Correa is going to take the most money possible, I think it’s pretty obvious. If two teams are really close offer wise he likely goes with the better one. I would be stunned if we are one of those teams giving an offer like that. Enjoy the next few weeks with him and let’s see how it plays out

I’d be stunned if they re-signed him. They don’t give out 10-year deals.

Crane spends money, but he does it strategically. He took on Verlander’s contract and then resigned him. He took on Greinke’s contract. But in all cases, those deals aren’t long deals. Even the Altuve and Bregman extensions weren’t close to 10 years. I can’t fault him for not wanting to have a Pujols-like albatross contract hanging around the organization for half of a 10-year deal.

I’d love to have Correa back but not at the expense of not being able to improve the rest of the roster in future years. As much as I love Springer, it was the right call to let him go. And, frankly, based on Correa’s injury history, it may be the right call to let him walk, too.

Who is going to be the team to break the bank for Correa?

I guess the Yankees have had underwhelming production at the position for a while now

I just don’t understand how the Yankees can afford all these guys. Cole, Stanton, Lemahieu, are just recent signings. I don’t know what judge’s contract situation is but if they add Correa with a $300M deal I just don’t see how it’s possible to have so many high profile guys on such expensive contracts.

The biggest x factor is the new cba. Nobody's getting signed til that's all figured out

My guess is it'll be like Springer where team that's trying to become competitive/draw in fans with a low payroll signs him. A lot of people think he might sign with Detroit because they have no SS depth in their system and they have a low payroll along with trying to get back into the playoffs.

I posted this the other day, but here's what payrolls will look like going into the winter meetings.

Why wouldn't they just sign Baez back? Or are they even ready to spend right now given the state of their franchise?

I think they've still got Gregorious for another year at $14 million.

You just have to think about which teams give him 10 years at a premium price. I don't see a team that is hoping to compete every season without much drop-off giving him 10 years.

Even the Yankees who will spend like gangbusters have to be cautious about giving Correa a 10-year deal. Either its a team willing to have the albatross contract because they desperately want some success in an otherwise lackluster product or because they have so much money they can stomach the hit without missing out on other guys.

Correa is significantly better at baseball than Baez. I’m not convinced they will want to add at this stage though. Phillies already said they aren’t committed to Didi as their SS next year and he was awful this year. They will for sure be in on the shortstops I would think

I agree but Baez has a better injury history, is a known product to the organization and he could come at a lower price at fewer years.

With all that being said I don't think the Cubs do anything like that for awhile.

Agree with Ryno here. Stros don’t do this sort of thing.

Peña is likely not ready yet. They’ll probably go after any one of the FA SS or 3B and move bregman over.

SS
Carlos Correa (27, 6.6 WAR) (not happening)
Trevor Story (29, 6.0)
Corey Seager (28, 5.5)
Javier Báez (29, 3.6)
José Iglesias (32, 2.6)
Freddy Galvis (32, 2.0)
Andrelton Simmons (32, 0.0)
Andrew Romine (36, -0.3)
Semien

3B
Nolan Arenado (31, 5.0) -- can opt out
Kyle Seager (34, 4.0) -- club option
Kris Bryant (30, 4.0)
Eduardo Escobar (33, 2.4)
Wilmer Flores (30, 2.2) -- club option
Jonathan Villar (31, 1.8)
Matt Duffy (31, 1.5)
Maikel Franco (29, 0.9)
Charlie Culberson (33, 0.5)
Starlin Castro (32, 0.4)
Ehire Adrianza (32, 0.2)
Asdrúbal Cabrera (36, 0.0)
Jake Lamb (31, 0.0)
Travis Shaw (32, -0.1)

Unfortunately they'll prob just play Aledmys at SS til Pena is ready which seems like a huge risk cause what if Pena doesn't take the next step in the first few months and ends up not being ready
