Set your DVRs baws. The World Champion Houston Astros take the field tomorrow. Blummer and fan favorite Lispy Todd Kalas are back along with DAT favorite Julia Morales.

there's nothing better than the first inning of spring training, and nothing worse than the second

It's difficult to repeat. The Astros really bolstered their starting pitching, which will give them a real chance at doing that. But they also had a lot of career years last year from non-stars (Morton, Gurriel (edit), Marisnick, Gonzales) which likely aren't repeatable.

A further challenge will be their division. There isn't a single tanker team in their division, so there is little opportunity to inflate win totals. The Angels and Mariners are solid, wild-cardish teams. The As aren't great, but are trying; the Rangers are pretty bad, but aren't giving up. Contrast that with the Indians, who are in a division with 2 admitted tankers. And the Royals lost 3 of their best position players and didn't really try to replace them; I guess they are the Pirates of the NL central, going for the 78 win trophy.

Defensive role player who will maintain that role. Not looking for much here

Gonzales

Marwin has been showing steady improvement over the last several years and finally broke out. He’s going to be closer to last year than 2015.

You also don’t mention bregman who is poised to have a big breakout with having spring training. Yuli having a rookie year under his belt and getting Beltran out of the lineup

Plus marginal bullpen improvement. I wish Gose would have a good ST so they could DFA Sipp.

I didn't mention Bregman, but he had a very good year. I also didn't mention Altuve and Correa, who also had career years. All are excellent players and stars...but will they have seasons as good as they had last year? We'll see.
Marwin had an OPS in excess of .900. His previous tops was .759. He's a good player. If he repeats that .900, he's a star.
Most World championship teams are replete with career years. The advantage the Astros have is that theirs were done by really good young players, who, even they don't repeat those years, will have excellent years, and likely put them in the playoffs.

Yes I meant Gurriel (not Castillo).

Unnecessary Post: The Astros Look Amazing

Fangraphs article

TLDR; best win projection for a team since the 2006 Cardinals, highest difference between 1st and 2nd record since Projections started

The most likely direction for bregman springer and Correa is up Bregman had no spring training and springer and Correa had significant missed time with injuries and came back slow from those injuries. Gurriel literally had never seen a change up consistently until the first month of the season. Its just as reasonable to expect their production to compensate for regression of a defensive specialist and super utility guy. Marwin was fantastic but I’d he regresses he just will play less.

Let's see who melts first!

The live feed of Blummer on the field just now was a disgrace. Color was way too loud and his audio was off. SMH.
