Will the Cowboys do it?

#Cowboys QB Dak Prescott might command a contract worth up to $60M per year, per @Schultz_Report

quote:

A reminder of the leverage Dak Prescott will have on the #Cowboys this offseason in extension talks...

- His cap number for 2024 is a whopping $59.45 million.

- He cannot be tagged next year, meaning he can become an unrestricted free agent no matter what.

- He also has a no-trade clause.

- If Dak were to leave in free agency next year, Dallas would take on $36.4 million in dead money for 2025.

Prescott has one year left on his contract and has all the leverage in the world to ask the #Cowboys to make him the highest-paid QB in NFL history.

What a joke. He is a middle of the pack NFL QB. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dallas hasn't been able to provide Dak the tools to compete in the playoffs, he should seek a team that will help him win it all. I think he could work out in New Orleans.

I love this. The Cowboys can’t win in this situation. Please let him destroy the salary cap in whatever way possible.

More Salary Cap gymnastics in 2024 & then new contract or new team in 2025.

He signed a 4 year/160M contract before 2021. He’s played well for 3 years, but not good enough to ask for 60M/yr

They really should just let him play out this final year. They're the Dallas heckn Cowboys, it's not like they have to desperately pay the 6th-10th best QB record money out of desperation in fear that he'll leave for brighter lights.

Only if they continue to follow a pattern of salary cap hell for their franchise. I can still see Jordan Love and Green Bay going up and down the field with impunity in the Playoffs, in Dallas, and watching Dak showing up in the same familiar Playoff mode.

Yeah, who wouldn't pay 60 mil a year for that show?

You could literally see the terror on Dak's face whenever the FOX cameras cut to him during those first two Packers drives

He's not worth 60 million, but he's also better than middle of the road. He finished 2nd in the MVP voting last year.

I hate what the modern QB contracts have done to the NFL and structuring a team

No problem paying the great ones, but there are only a few. Now the good but not great ones get future-crippling contracts for slightly above average play.

Yes they can. This year's draft is loaded with QB talent. They can trade up to middle of 1st and still snag a guy like McCarthy or Penix and cut/trade Dak instead of paying him 60 f-ing million/yr.

If it were possible I wonder if the Cowboys would rather have Kirk Cousins over Dak.
