College football is better than ever. Look at the ratings.

If coaches stop paying the high demands, the prices will go down. But the coaches won’t stop paying those prices so they need to stop crying when it’s them who are paying the players

The ratings are always the last thing to fall.

Also notice how the coaches always complain about the amount of money the players are being paid, but never complain about coach salaries or the size of their staff...

“I won the natty with a bunch of old arse, well coached, cheap guys I already knew at James Madison, I don’t think I’ll be able to sustain that going forward.”

What ratings? Why do you think they’re expanding playoffs? Thats a sales gimmick

Look at the ratings.

Inflated by the novelty and the inability for people to see the unintended consequence coming right around the bend. Or worse, they see them, and they just don’t care. They’ll be out with the fat stack and the predecessors can fend for themselves.

There is a college football television bubble that it 100% going to burst. Regular season games will drop in viewership. Teams will start playing 3 times a year. Why do I want to watch Oregon and Ohio State in September in a game that doesn’t really count, when I can just wait for them to play again in December. And yeah, it’ll be super fun exciting when LSU and Michigan play for the 1st time in their programs histories. When they’re playing for the 3rd time in 5 years in an extended playoff, the novelty will heave worn off.

The ratings are gonna drop—probably gradually at 1st—but then they’ll drop off a cliff. It’s amazing to me that people can’t see this. It’s staring us right in the face. They are selling their souls for a bunch of fast cash, and telling the next generation to kiss their arse and figure it out themselves—it’s not their problem. And they’re right. It’s ours. The fans.

Gotta collude now while collusion is still legal.

But nah, coaches have been seeking advantages for forever. No one wants to be the sacrificial lamb to try and break the current system.

Coaches aren't paying them... colleges have NFL-type front offices now

Ever seen that episode of The Walking Dead where Carrol (I believe is her name) has to kill the little girl to protect the group?

Tells her to “Look at the flowers” as she pulls the gun.

This is where you are… looking at the ratings.

Curt Cignetti has been in the coaching profession for over 40 years. He has paid his dues and then some for far longer than any of the players on his roster have been alive. This is his career. These players demanding six digit numbers to attend school and play ball are only two years removed from getting their drivers license. Most can't even drink yet.

What is right around the corner? Everyone talking about a boogey man that doesn’t exist. If schools can’t afford it then don’t pay them. Nobody is forcing any school to use NIL. They could all use the money for track or volleyball or rugby. But they don’t. Then whine about it. Same with the portal. They say they don’t like the portal while at the same time hosting portal players.

Don’t listen to words - look at actions. And guys like Cignetti, Kirby, etc are all spending big in NIL and taking in transfers. There is no boogey man - you guys root for the the boogey man.

The boogeyman is real. 30k+ transfers, seven-figure NIL deals for portal QBs, mid-majors getting gutted, and non-revenue sports on the chopping block. Schools 'choose' to pay because if they don't, they lose to the ones that do. It's turned college ball into annual free agency. Great for top stars, rough for everything else.

Someone I'm close with has regular interaction with high level boosters at one particular SEC school. Booster fatigue at that school is very real. I really can't fathom casually dropping $500k in the pot for a WR. I could understand being frustrated that said WR is riding the bench, nearly flunking out but riding around town in a leased lambo. Only so many times guys like that are gonna keep ponying up.

There's a long list of teams that lost the National Title in early October like 1992 FSU.

2008 USC lost the National Title in late September.

Now its just seeding for the "real season" in December and January... The one thing, the one thing that truly made,CFB special.... That "every game matters" was the first thing they killed. Unbelievable.

It’ll exist. But the teams with an “owner” like Cuban, Ellison etc are going to make it way easier to win.

It’s just a pro league now. The key to college football still existing is if the fans stay invested when the schools they root for turn into their own professional franchises

the game intros use to be great especially on CBS. They used to show shots of the bands, cheerleads, and mascots a lot more than they do today.

maybe it's just me. I know those parts aren't terribly important, but you can tell the difference when they all add up.

people don't want to pay to go to games as much like they used to I'll bet.

The commercial breaks in CFB are just flat out ridiculous.

I’ve always thought if the college football players are getting paid, the entire experience should be compensated as well which means the cheerleaders and band need checks too. They are part of the ambience and entertainment value of a college football game
