Agree. You HAVE TO factor in how he changes the game defensively and his offense is good enough given the grueling nature of the position.

Albert Belle is a similar case. He dominated baseball offensively for about 5-6 yrs. His personality is probably a factor on why he isn’t in though.

Altuve.

Springer if he regains a pulse wherever he went. I’m not sure if what he’s already done as an Astro Is enough.

Cabrera.

I took the OP as meaning who on Saturday morning Aug. 13, 2022, are the absolute metaphysically certain locks, not who’s on the path if they keep going.

Verlander, Grienke, Kershaw and Scherzer are locks as pitchers.

Pujols, Cabrera and Votto are locks at 1B. Goldschmidt is getting close. Freddie has some work to do.

Altuve is getting close at 2B but isn’t a lock yet.

Nobody at SS.

Arenado and Machado are getting close at 3B.

Trout is the only certain OF lock. Betts is getting close.

Yadi at C is a metaphysically certain lock and it will make some heads explode when he is a first-ballot choice.

Albert Belle had a great career but a short career, and when that happens you need a narrative (Koufax) or some goodwill (Puckett although he turned out to be a turd at the end of the day) to get over the top, and Belle has no goodwill with anyone and a horrible narrative.

Springer has a LOT of work to do. I don't think he has much of a chance given his age and injury history.

I don't think so... but I don't feel strongly enough to put up any money.

His OBP is elite, but counting stats are marginal.

If someone like Scott Rolen hasn't been voted in after 5 years, I don't think Votto is a lock.

Votto has an mvp though.

And From 10-17’ was one of the 3 best hitters in the NL

If you look at most of his peers, he is about 20 WAR better than some other really good 1B. He is/was that good.

I'm a scott rolen stan, but he was never considered the best hitter in baseball, nor has an MVP

If this were 1987 i might be concerned.

He was on some pretty shitty Reds teams and never had great teammates

For example. "Votto didn't drive in runs"

Votto career slash with RISP is .324/.473/.572

For those who are bad at math, thats a 1.044 CAREER OPS with runners in scoring position.

Miggy, who was an RBI god has a career slash of .329/.423/.536

Votto out slugged Miggy with RISP by almost 40 points over a career.

He was really the first star of the advanced stats revolution, and i think he will be judged that way.

Rolen makes up for that with his glove, in my opinion. His career WAR is higher than Votto. I like them both, but to me a hall of fame "lock" is someone getting in first ballot and I don't expect Votto to get in first ballot.

Well that explains a lot, i would just call that a first-ballot HOF.

you think that shite stain yadi is a first ballot?

No fricking way, i get it, he's a good defensive catcher, but he's an offensive abomination.

He's going to have the lowest WAR total in hall history for a modern catcher.
