Could a 2 quarterback system work in the NFL?

With both of them sharing snaps?

These QB rooms are getting awfully crowded. Just makes me wonder what you do with 2 legit QBs (beside trade them)…..

In what world? There’s like 15 good QBs at best

Are you talking about switching out series to series or having two QB (traditional pocket vs running QB) and rotating half to half or game to game depending on matchup?

Could it work, as in win some games? Sure. Be successful as deep run in playoffs or win a Super Bowl, I don't think so.

I assume the chemistry between QB and first team offensive is too important as far as practice and game reps go.

If they had any faith that it could work, you would think that teams would already being doing it.

The only qb rooms that are “crowded” have multiple mid to bad QBs that teams aren’t sure which to play. And the answer to your question does rotating between washed Russell Wilson and Jameis or Flacco and Picket make sense? The answer is no

Unless you mean a Chris Leak/Tebow situation, why would you even want to? Unless you're Anthony Richardson, your QB doesn't need to be pulled due to fatigue.

The Saints had some success with Brees and Hill. Maybe a guy like Justin Fields could play the Hill role and get someone who could actually pass to play 90% of the snaps.

So having a few designed plays for a backup definitely works but can't imagine having 2 qbs actually splitting time or even games working too well

I use to wonder when Vick was the QB for the falcons, if they would have be able to put him on the field with Kordell Steward. What kind of plays could be developed?
A right handed and left handed QB, either of which you could send out to the flat for a pass.

It's like girlfriends. If you have 2 you don't have any.

I would love to see a day where you have lets just say a Lamar Jackson and a Taysom Hill on the field together.

Both can make plays with feet and arms. Both have running traits but different styles.

Combine that with a dynamic type running back.

Defenses would have to be prepared for so much when you have 2 guys that can pass, run, block, run routes or any combo there of on a 3 down basis play in and play out on the fly.

No.

You only have so much prep time for your offense. Either one or the other QB will be less prepared or the opposing defenses will be able to figure out the plays easier because of each QB’s differences in style.

There is a difference between having a main QB and a “gadget” QB and having two regular QBs.

That would be a real throwback offense.

The problem if you wanted to run a large part of your offense that way is that nobody learns schemes like that growing up so starting from scratch with limited practice time would be difficult.

Even if you could get this hypothetical dream 2 QB scenario working, neither one of them would like it. Talented QB's don't want half a starting job. Some other team would promise them full time starting and they'd want out.

Two QB systems are terrible and were invented to either mask QB deficiencies or pacify egos, not because they were good.

Those situations were where the head coaches changed who the starting QB would be several times within the season - not unusual at all.

In the early 80's the Dolphins had "Woodstrock". David Woodley would start the game and finish if he played well. but if he struggled, Shula would replace him with Don Strock. Woodley started the 1st game of his rookie year and struggled. He came in relief in the next 2. After that he was the Dolphins starting QB for the next 43 games until Dan Marino made his debut in week 6 of the 1983 season. Strock relieved Woodley in 13 of those games including the epic 41-38 OT playoff game against the San Diego Chargers.
