Maybe not the slums, but plenty of slummage and thugs around in the area. I have worked 23 years in the area.

Story of guy getting shot walking home this past season

Unfortunately makes it even farther away from me as I live in Henry.

Alpharetta/Gwinnett/Norcross/Johns Creek/Cumming all get the shaft with the cobb location. With that said, it isn't exactly a walk in the park to get to Turner Field from these places.

The doraville location is really the only spot I can think of that would directly benefit the areas I mentioned.

I still think I wait and see what is done to alleviate the traffic before I call the cobb location dumb.

yea, I don't think they made this decision without having a plan for the traffic.

but if they don't, then this is idiotic

There is just no way they put the team at the Cobb spot knowing how much the traffic issue has hurt them at Turner, without a plan to fix.

I really think adding a streetcar on 41 that runs up and down buckhead into the southside could work.

I'm sure they have a plan for traffic, no way they are that stupid

I'm not a big fan of taxpayers having to pay for sports teams stadiums so them doing this and replacing a 17 year old stadium would irk me if I had to help fund the stadium. However if it ends up being 100% privately funded then more power to them, they can do whatever they want

I guess I'll just stick to going to top golf by my house and watching games there.

there's multiple ways to reach that new site as is, I'm sure with some enhancements it'll be even more accessible. there's already been quite a bit done around that Cumberland Blvd exit off 75 over the yrs, I'm thinking they might expand on that.

it'll still be a bitch if you're trying to get there from 285 on the top side, I couldn't imagine living in Gwinnett and driving over there on a weeknight. but if I'm coming from an office somewhere in Midtown, Buckhead or Perimeter, it may not be the worst thing in the world.

very true, its actually fairly accessible from most of Buckhead which you could lump in Midtown/downtown with that.

Coming from Gwinnett on 285 is the biggest hurdle.

And the ride is probably 30 to 40 minutes over the perimeter. When I leave work, it generally takes me an hour (maybe less) to go from Norcross to Marietta. I don't see the Braves game making it much worse than that considering you can pass the 75 merge.

I think the traffic complaint is being overblown. It screws the MARTA riders, but there's just not that many of those that really bring in the bacon for the Braves to make a decision on it.

The real question is the funding. Seems this caught Cobb residents off guard. Let's see how they react in the following days.

The only people who don't like this are...

1. Jealous Gwinnettians because they got a civic center that hosts a minor league hockey team and concerts from the people who almost won American Idol and Cobb gets the Braves.

2. Hipster ITPers who would generally think sports are too mainstream but don't like the fact the "sticks" one upped them.

3. People who are ignorant to the area surrounding Turner Field and the limitations it places on the Braves gameday experience.

Traffic sucks everywhere in ATL so that's not really a major issue. If they do this right, i.e. put some badass bars/restaurants/tailgating areas around the stadium and address the traffic somewhat it's going to be awesome.

They could go across 92 then shoot down 575/75. Would take about an hour from Northpoint mall. They need to build a connector up there by 92 that connects 575/75 to 400. If you have it at 65 mph then you would get there in no time and be going against traffic in the evening onceyou hit 575/75.

We live 10 mins from Marietta Square and this is awesome. I would go to one or two games a year. Now I will probably get a season ticket package. I can go down east-west connector, windy hill connector or cobb and be there in 25 minutes.

No doubt I'm about a mile away from the square, so maybe 4-5 from the stadium and I think it will be great.
