Comparing WC Penalty kicks and college football 2 pt extra points

I honestly don't like either method in determining a winner in either sport.
But, to break it down, at least in the World Cup, they will play an overtime of regular play to try to get a winner first. But, the penalty kicks from like 15 feet away are just plain stupid. Total randomness of the goalie to guess where to defend.
In college football, there are only 2 OT possessions, from arguably too close, and then its straight to these 2 point conversion attempts.
Not as stupid as the penalty kick, but also not very representative of a full football game and its strategy.
I don't have a suggestion for soccer, other than just keep playing longer.
Maybe reduce the number of players on the field after the first overtime.
In football, I think there's an easy fix...
Eliminate the 2 point garbage, and move the starting position back to at least the 40. Maybe after the first 2 OTs, move the starting possession even further back. Not a big fan of the NFL OT, since there's not always an equal number of possessions

That German goalie was totally just guessing.

Ummm that's all you can do from that distance. Just hope you guess right.

I like your idea of reducing number of players in the ot, similar to hockey

That was the point. No real skill involved. Unless deception is a skill?

I bet you wouldnt make a single one on either of those goalies.

This. Saying its not the best way to end the game, is much different than saying there is no skill involved. That's just dumb.

The original college OT was great / the only change should have been to start from the 40.
Make the offense earn some yards before a free 42yd FG attempt. From the 40, with no yards gained that’s 57yds, which is significantly different than 42. Add in a loss of 2 yards, a false start, or delay of game, and everything changes.
Or if we’re not going to do that, instead of the 1-play 2 point conversion, make it 1st & Goal from the 10, with no FG option.

The only time you really need a winner is the playoffs.
CFB had ties before 1996 and it wasn't a problem.

That's why they do them at 12 yards instead.

There isn’t a more stressful thing to do in all of sports than having to walk by yourself from midfield in a full stadium with millions watching on tv as you have to make a PK, which you are expected to do as all of the pressure is on the shooter and zero pressure is on the goalie.
Maybe having to hit a putt to win or tie a major would be close, but even then, if you miss the putt you just let yourself down. When you miss a PK you let your team and your entire country down, so the pressure is amplified.

Game winning or tying FG attempt with no time left?

Should do 30 mins of extra. If no winner, addituinal 15 min segments with golden goal to end the game.

Is that way several players didn't even get the shot on frame? Every four years we have to read nonsense like this

No. After 120 minutes, the players are exhausted, the skill has gone done considerably. A golden goal winner in that scenario will be just as much "luck" as the winner of the PK shootout.

This is such a stupid comment. Soccer is so gay. So boring, very little action. Games end 0-0. Oh boy. Shrink the field, light the ball on fire, then it wouldn't suck
