re: Colorado and Deion: You know it's bad when you've lost Joel Klatt

I’m surprised one of Deion’s biggest cheerleaders behind the scenes has brought his criticisms and frustrations into the public domain.
Do you think Deion takes constructive criticism well? Saying it publicly may be more effective than sitting down one on one with him.

You really think he's still at Colorado in 2025?

I disagree on playing slowball clock management. You've got to have the offensive line, and at least some semblance of defense to do that. Colorado did not have those necessary components. Above all, you've got to play to your strengths, and that's Shedeur and the passing game. I actually think conservative slowball took away the chance to win on the final drive on offense. And similarly, playing too slow and running too much ran out the clock on a chance to win vs. USC on the last TD drive.
He went for it on 4th from his own 40 with a 29 point lead, which led to a sack, a 12 yard loss, and a short field for Stanford. Lane Kiffin wouldn’t even be that dumb.
He then went for it again on 4th and 4 from the Stanford 30, which led to 21 yard loss on an intentional grounding and another short field.
He also played Travis Hunter 160 snaps after missing a month, while watching him get cooked on defense.
There’s a lot of truth in him trying to pump his son’s stats up instead of managing the game like a coach who knows what he’s doing at this level.

The O/U win total for the season was 3.5, so they've already surpassed expectations.
If they don’t win another game, which is possible, they’ve basically met expectations. 4 wins covers that by half a game

It depends on just how committed he is to the long-term. If you looked at their schedule, you knew this was inevitable. Him milking that 6 weeks got buy-in from the community, the university, and likely alumni that will be called upon to donate for facility upgrades and NIL for recruiting.
And they could not win another game, but he is damn sure going to be able to recruit better after all that attention, and recruiting is the name of the game. College head coaches are salesmen. You know Saban loathes that part of it, but he’s still been rocking that ugly arse blue jacket and making duck commercials for over a decade now, way before Deion joined him. And that’s why he’s been on every BCS or CFBP show every year that Bama doesn’t make it. He is selling Alabama football 24/7. That’s a huge part of the gig.
But Deion can’t sell championships or NFL 1st round pick developments, or Heisman Trophy winners yet, so all he can currently sell is himself. And if he hadn’t taken advantage of the opportunity the media has given him so far, it would have been malpractice. What will be interesting to see moving forward is just how much he can leverage the attention from this season into recruiting, specifically from the portal. I think his son will come back for another year, Hunter and other skill guys will be back, if they can add some experienced beef to both lines and become more physical, with them moving to the Big 12 next year and with OU and Texas leaving, they could content for the title if he kills it in the portal.

I thought everyone that questioned his coaching acumen was racist.

When he was at Jsu, he was pretty dumb when he got Way from football. Constantly made a fool of himself when he did.

Vegas does not set team or fan’s expectations. There are plenty of teams that would not be happy just meeting the Vegas win number, or beating it by 1/2 game.

No. That was a 4th and 2 from the Stanford 45.
I think it was a good call.
Stanford blitzed. Shedeur had Javon Antonio on a shallow cross.
The offensive line was not good in protection on this play. Colorado ranks LAST in FBS in sacks allowed. So you can critique Shedeur on getting it out quicker, but the bottom line is he has had an incredible season behind an OL that consistently has breaks in protection in the passing game, and can't get push in the running game.
There's only so much one player can do, and Shedeur has more than done his part in these circumstances.
You can say go ahead punt with this much of a lead. But I like the aggressiveness on this call.

No. This was from the Stanford 44. (After a shanked punt and the defense having problems covering Ayomanor.)
Again, I like the call to go.
The critique I have on this play is having frosh Edwards in on pass protection. He could be good as an outlet option in this scenario, but I think you go with another RB to stay in and protect.
The more crucial calls were on the drive I mentioned. With the game on the line, that's not the time put it on the OL and defense to secure the W. Shedeur missed Hunter on 3rd down on that drive, but we can't expect complete perfection from a QB.
He completed over 70% for 400 yards and 5 TDs in the game.
My main critique on this game was that he locked in on Hunter too much in the 2nd half. The other receivers and TE Harrison have shown they're reliable and clutch, so I think it would have been better to get them involved more.

Watching from my couch I was uncomfortable with seeing the Hunter kid play the entire game coming off a serious injury. Not to mention it’s stupid. This ain’t high school. Stanford might not be much but their receivers were rag-dolling him in the second half.

Whose expectations are you going by?
On this board, expectations were extremely low before the season.
See the verbosely uninformative Alt26:
We can find many more posts like this here on the MSB.
Then of course there was the epic faceplant by clown Luginbill.
The best thing for Colorado to do as a program is ignore expectations in my opinion. Whether they're from fans or clowns.
Saban has always been so good at dispelling false notions of expectations. Fans and media and haters are great at coming up with arbitrary expectations based on screwy narratives.
What some people now want to do is reframe expectations to be much higher than they had set in preseason so they can portray a negative narrative of Deion and Shedeur when the reframed expectations aren't met.
(I'm not referring to Klatt on this. He gave some legitimate criticisms, and you can tell he's still a Colorado guy. I.e., not "lost" as the title of the thread suggests.)

It's not out of the realm of possibility CU goes 0-12 this season (though I think they will find a way to win 2-3 games).

all of the sports media three weeks ago going all in on the FALSE agenda that... "but...but... Prime is truly an OLD SCHOOL FOOTBALL COACH! WE PROMISE!".... did them no favors either.
no legit coach at the collegiate level or even high school level would allow their players to act the way they have acted (his son in particular obviously).

The media created this monster forgetting this is the same Colorado that won what one game last year? Sure they brought in a couple of NFL caliber players but that squad is still garbage as a whole.

Deion didnt exactly temper expectations after the first game by beating his chest & acting like an arse to every reporter in the room.
