I'm not the one bragging about being from alabama and how if you don't live there, you could never possibly fathom the greatness that is that rivalry

We forgot that great invisible rivalry that gets so much discussion...

LSU vs. USC

or is it...USC vs. the SEC

If you are talking HATRED, Michigan-Ohio State is way above the rest. There is very little mutual respect, it can be pretty childish. Honestly a significant part of this is online message boards, IMO. You can't go on a Michigan board or article without OSU fans flaming away.

About instate rivalries vs out of state, UofM-OSU is 10x the rivalry UofM-State is. There is a lot of teasing or bragging with the State rivalry, but with Ohio it's goes further than a little teasing or jokes. I'm not that into Michigan theses days but I still hate OSU football with a passion, I love to see bad things happen to them (Tressel, tattoogate). It isn't just a football rivalry, it's a state rivalry.

I will admit my hatred of OSU is pretty stupid, but many people will agree they aren't the most likable.

I can't comment on Ohio St-Michigan or Texas-Oklahoma because I haven't been around either rivalry.

I think the Alabama-Auburn rivalry has always been a solid one. I think that the "hatred" fans are supposed to have towards each other here is vastly overrated. Thanks to that inbred rube Harvey Updyke and that rather weak documentary Roll Tide/War Eagle, I think others may see this rivarly as a joke.

It shouldn't be that way either because its a great rivalry.

I'm beginning to think these two have lapped the field and set unprecedented depths when it comes to rivalry. It's only mitigated by the respect they have for each other's hate. They're the folks the Hatfield's and McCoys's sing about.

Michigan vs OSU >>> Bama vs Barners

FSU vs Miami was good, but not so much anymore.

Ask Bill Curry that question. He got death threats and a brick thrown through his window. He left of his own accord but the dude was pretty much run out of town.

Your head coach gets death threats...hahaha . I can't really say I'm proud of it, but recruits who choose Michigan over OSU get death threats all the time from crazy OSU fans.

Also ask Mike Shula that question as well. His fate was sealed the night he lost to Auburn in 2006.

A fate being sealed by losing to your rival school is not exactly the same as being fired despite being relatively successful season after season except against Michigan.

Tommy Tuberville was let go from Auburn because Alabama was rising under Saban and Tubby didn't have the drive or work ethic to keep up.

Like I said, I have no doubt their is a great rivalry there...but this is a joke compared to the OSU Michigan rivalry.

This has sadly become pretty common for a lot of schools regardless of which school they choose. Twitter

Like i said, I personally didn't notice raging hatred between the two schools..In fact, after auburn won the nc in 2010, there were a lot of "state pride" and "keep it in alabama" sayings from the bama fans, and vice versa when bama won the nc in 2011

Yeah, I remember hearing chatter like this around the bars I frequent during football season. At first, I thought it was just the booze talking. But after a while, it just became a trend.

Don't get me wrong, its not like the two sides got into a huge circle and sang Kumbaya or anything but the notion they totally hate each other isn't true.

I agree, there is a lot more bitterness between OSU-Mich than aub-bama. Some of those midwest people are genuinely angry people lol.

I can't speak for Auburn - Alabama because I haven't lived it. Obviously, it is a great rivalry.

Ohio State - Michigan is difficult to describe. The coaches won't call the other team by their name. There are clocks that reset to count down the time until The Game as soon as the previous game is over. Drills are done in practice specifically for that opponent all season long. An 11-1 season at Ohio State that ends in a loss to Michigan is considered to be a failed season.

Finally, the history is that there is so much at stake in that game. Unlike the SEC, in the Big Ten if you didn't win the conference you weren't eligible for a bowl game until 1976. How many times have Auburn and Alabama met when both were undefeated and the loser had to sit out the bowl season?

This is what makes it the greatest rivalry...the hatred but more importantly, the stakes.

Like USC-ND when they played (no real hatred though)...there was real shite on the line when Michigan and Ohio State played for decades...usually the Big 10 title and Rose Bowl...with a chance at the National Title (ala USC-ND which often decided the national title in the late 60's-70's.)

Michigan - Ohio State is tops because the rivalry impacted college football far more as a whole. Bama-Auburn seemed very very regional for years and years while the other was national.

I've heard it is but when is the last time it was a meaningful game with national implications for both teams. I'm thinking the answer here is never.

When they both stunk, it was bad on both sides.

When Oregon become good and posh with Nike...they sort of act like they their history doesn't stink...and so the rivalry is more from the side of OSU fans...at least when I lived in Oregon.

The Beavers are the redneck crowd who take it more seriously and rejoice in beating Oregon...while Oregon acts like it is shameful to lose to OSU.

Oregon has been trying to make UW their real rival for years...and recently USC. New money likes to trade up their rivalry status.
