To be honest neither team has been very good for most of the rivalry. The civil war was best when both teams sort of sucked honestly. Just an intense rivalry between two average teams. Now one is clearly superior.

If you think the beavers are equal to the ducks your crazy.

The rivalry was best when both teams were good.
Beavs had a chance to go to the rose bowl twice in the last couple years but the ducks put a stop to that both times.

Eh. They had a chance at the beginning of the season just like every other PAC 12 team.

And where did you read in my post that I think Oregon State is equal to the Ducks in football? They haven't been for quite some time.

Oh, and define both teams being good because Oregon State hasn't been to the Rose Bowl since 1965. At my school that isn't considered even close to good.

My favorite moment of the Ducks/Beavs rivalry:

The Toilet Bowl

Oregon State was a legit team in the early 2000's. They took Notre Dame to the woodshed in the Fiesta Bowl.

They had a chance to go to the rose bowl twice in recent memory. They upset number 1 ranked USC twice but then lost to the ducks.

That's where i'm coming from..from an outsider's opinion, it seems michigan-tOSU has had bigger implications and thus is a more hated rivalry than bama-auburn..that's not saying bama-auburn isn't one of the best rivalries in college football, because it is..just my opinion

So bigger implications means better rivalry? In the past 3 years, how big has that Ohio State-Michigan game been? What has it decided? Now...take a look at the last three Iron Bowls and tell me what they have decided.

Oklahoma's #1 rival was Nebraska until about 10 years that is common knowledge

Maybe an OU fan can speak to this but from my more than 30 years of hating OU and living in close proximity with OU fans in the DFW area for some of that time, I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

At the very least, it's not "common knowledge." Texas-OU has been played at least 20 more times...yes part of that is the Big 12 killing it off but still.

I was talking about what has LED to the fierce rivalry between the teams, not how the respective rivalries matchup in terms of today's college football's race for the crystal trophy

I'm sorry you don't like my ranking of your rivalry game

It's gotta be Auburn/Bama. There's nothing else in the state but cfb. No pro sports teams and no one cares about basketball.

Most popular? Maybe

Most hateful? Doubt it tops Michigan/OSU

And you're right, they have nothing else there

For the last three years, the Iron Bowl has had national title and Heisman Trophy implications - how much bigger can implications get? The bigger the implications, the fiercer the rivalry, that's what you said. And this topic is about CURRENT top rivalries. Based on the criteria you listed in your earlier post, how could the Iron Bowl not be the CURRENT fiercest rivalry?

UF/UGA have been playing at a neutral site since the 30's and can't agree when the series officially started.

Edit: Started in 1915, regardless of what UGA fans say.

IM not getting involved in this Dick measuring contest, but Ohio state vs UN these next few years will be epic. urban and Brady already don't like each other. Its been a while since both head coaches hated each other and actually will trade jabs through the media. Tressel wasnt that guy. Lllllllloyd wasn't that guy. Cooper, etc. Its gonna be fun. and you can't compare rivalries. its not possible.

How many years have you? Just because you think the alabama-auburn rivalry involves more hatred doesn't make it so to everyone else.

I'm talking about over the two programs history..reread the guy's post talking about for a long time how the winner of this game was going to the rose bowl and potentially the NCG

Alabama-Auburn is not the no. 1 "most hateful"--as i said in my op--rivalries because Michigan/OSU tops that in terms of hate, in my opinion. Even in today's college football, where ohio state and michigan haven't been the powerhouses they once were, the fierce rivalry is still there.

Bottom line--both are hateful..OSU/Michigan is moreso

There's a difference between heated rivalry and hate.

Bama and Auburn are arguing hate...well they're basically arguing which fan base is the most juvenile and stunted developmentally.

Recent news points to Bama/Auburn I'm afraid.

DUDE. I have been watching the MICH/OSU rivalry since 1968. It has ALOT of hate, But there is NOTHING like the HATE that AU/BAMA have. It doesn't matter what is at stake. THE IRON BOWL is named THAT for A reason. TRUST ME. I LIVED through the 10 years war that Mich /Osu had from 1968 to 1980. Its STILL not even close.
