Someone in this thread earlier made a pretty good damn point. While fans of either tOSU or UM don't interact with each other on an everyday basis, there is a strong state rivalry going on. I interact with a good amount of UM fans, MSU fans, and tOSU fans from both Ohio and Michigan and both of them, especially the tOSU and Michigans, just hate the other state in general and it's not just football.

Oklahoma's #1 rival was Nebraska until about 10 years that is common knowledge

When was the last time an Ohio State fan poisoned a tree in Michigan in retaliation for rival fans putting a Wolverine jersey on a Woody Hayes statue?
What a stupid fricking argument. One redneck's actions means Bama/Auburn is a more hateful rivalry? Does a Bama fan teabagging a LSU fan make Bama/LSU more hateful as well?
It's funny watching both teams' fans try to justify the Iron Bowl when comparing it to Mich/OSU.

OSU coaches get fired because they win all their games except Michigan...can you say the same for auburn and alabama? I wouldn't think so.
Has this ever really happened? Where an OSU coach went undefeated other than a single loss to Michigan and was fired after the season due to that single loss?
Because it has at bama. In 1989, Bill Curry was 10-0 going into the last game of the season. He asked the FBI to provide an armed escort into JH that day because he was scared. He lost. He was then let go by bama. He was only at bama 3 years and was 9-3 the previous season and went to bowl games all 3 years including the sugar bowl as the SEC champion immediately before he was fired.
He was fired for 1 reason only. Auburn.

John Cooper was fired for one reason, Michigan.

You gave him 13 years, Alabama only gave Curry 3, and Curry was a pretty damn successful head coach while at Alabama.

Even though most of them admitted they don't know enough about it to comment on it?

That just tells you which is the more famous rivalry right there, doesn't it?

Ohio State vs. Michigan - 108 meetings.
Alabama vs. Auburn - 76 meetings.
Ohio State and Michigan have decided the Big Ten Conference championship between themselves on 22 different occasions, and have affected the determination of the conference title an additional 27 times.
So in 49 meetings, one was potentially knocking the other out of the conference title.
Now, I don't know the reality...but from an outsider's view...that would breed greater hatred due to the stakes.

No? Your guys logic makes zero sense.

So was Cooper. His 1996 and 1998 teams finished second in the country and the 1995 team was ranked #2 going into the Michigan game.
But, 2-10-1 against Michigan and he never got the rivalry. Said it was "just another game" but his sphincter sure tightened up in that game.

When they both stunk, it was bad on both sides. When Oregon become good and posh with Nike...they sort of act like they their history doesn't stink...and so the rivalry is more from the side of OSU fans...at least when I lived in Oregon. The Beavers are the redneck crowd who take it more seriously and rejoice in beating Oregon...while Oregon acts like it is shameful to lose to OSU. Oregon has been trying to make UW their real rival for years...and recently USC. New money likes to trade up their rivalry status.
You couldn't be more wrong. How does Oregon try to make USC their rival? UW is a real rival. Ask any UW fan who their most hated team is. Most will say Oregon. The civil war hasn't been a good rivalry lately because the beavs suck right now. It used to be great in the early 2000's.

My friends in Oregon when I lived there...said they hated USC more than the Beavers...and UW as well.
My sister who went to Oregon hates UW more than the Beavers...and the last couple of years, it's been all about beating USC.

To be honest neither team has been very good for most of the rivalry. The civil war was best when both teams sort of sucked honestly. Just an intense rivalry between two average teams. Now one is clearly superior.

No offense, but just because your friends in Oregon hate USC more then the beavs doesn't mean the Ducks are trying to make USC their rival. UW has always been a rival.

That's where i'm coming from..from an outsider's opinion, it seems michigan-tOSU has had bigger implications and thus is a more hated rivalry than bama-auburn..that's not saying bama-auburn isn't one of the best rivalries in college football, because it is..just my opinion
and pitt/wv seems like a pretty heated matchup as well
