National Championship is back in New Orleans in two years. So that's in Lane's time-line

Bottom line is Pete Nakos doesn’t know shite about what any team spends. It’s a guess based on what they value players and the value is a guess. All these deals are not public.

Just 2 years ago LSU fans cried about Ohio State spending money on their roster for 30M. Gonna be fun watching them call the pot kettle black

The timeline is now. There is no rebuilding in college football. If LSU doesn’t win the championship this coming year thats a massive failure.

Well that's ridiculous, LSU making the playoff is the goal then they will go from there

That’s ridiculous even with a $40M roster?

I have no clue if that’s accurate or not

And what has changed in the 2, 3, 4 years?

Completely new staff and system with completely new players, and you think a championship first season is the right barometer? That would be as impressive a coaching job as Cignetti’s

$40m isn’t going to be the annual baseline anyway. If you have legitimate championship aspirations and want to put your foot down as a power right away (which snowballs recruiting momentum), Year 1 entails rebuilding a full roster that’s going to be expensive. If they’re spending this every year they’d have a problem but that’s not realistically going to happen

Because it’s getting closer to the revenue the big time colleges are making. Don’t think the players don’t know how much the biggest brands are making

When the Marlins beat the Yankees in the world series they had 24 million dollar roster that year.

A rod made 25 million that year.

While I do think our team is stacked on paper, a lot of that $40 million wasn’t on 5 star headliners. We had to fill in a ton of depth to replace the outgoing players from the previous regime. I’d venture to say there are at least a handful of other teams with as much talent, if not a little more depth than us.

I think at least winning one playoff game would make this season a “success.”

Nobody does and it's idiotic to throw out speculative numbers on nothing but hearsay

LESS THAN FIVE years ago the big talking point was that it would cost $15M to construct a championship caliber roster.

How in the absolute frick did that nearly triple in such a short time?

Deregulation. Five years ago you didn't have unlimited, immediately eligible transfers. You had signing/scholarship limits.

LSU brought in 59 new players this offseason.

They’re trying to take credit if we win which equals business and political capital. It’s a marketing expense for Todd Graves

I seem to remember a lot of rocks being thrown at A&M for "buying a roster" ... It appears those rocks were being launched in front of a glass maison

Don’t mean before it was legal or do you mean a few years ago when they still went 8-4 with Jimbo?

These numbers are lies. And it wouldn’t surprise me if LSU leaks them because no school wants to me known as cheap
