At least WWE has a women's division

Do they? Seems Charlotte is the only one that matters. Bayley was the real MVP of the division during the pandemic. But they make Rhea, Asuka, Bazler look like chumps, Alexa is just nonsensical.

It was certainly a problem early on but AEW’s women are vastly improved from the beginning. Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa are stars that we’ll be seeing for the next 5+ years as often as the Horsewomen the past 5. Shida, Conti, Deeb, Riho, Jade all have tons of potential. Ruby maybe coming soon. I’ll give you they need to do a better job presenting the ladies more and better in the undercard.

quote:

Both of them appeal to the anti-WWE mark and that crowd already watches AEW.

Ok that’s great, but you’re underselling them. Literally the loudest reactions aside from maybe Cena since the Austin/Rock days. Listen to their pops in 2011-2013, WM30 in New Orleans (I was there, Bryan was THE most over person in the building) or just last night. Look around Reddit or social media to see how many people mention it was those two specifically that brought them back in the early 2010s. Current WWE fans have clamored for more of them for years now, they’ll tune in just to see them. Punk’s name is known outside of wrestling circles too.

I’m not saying they’ll start routinely beating the ratings of WWE (not that it much matters today) but they are going to move the needle no doubt.

quote:

their main problem is they are growing too fast. Their whole appeal that draws wrestlers to join their brand is "We will use and book you better than you would be in WWE and you will have more creative freedom" The thing is this is what ultimately doomed WCW. Everyone was promised the same thing, creative freedom, will be used better.

AEW is not WCW, and all reports so far have been about how positive the vibe is in the locker room. Those selfish toxic personalities of the 90s aren’t there, bc vets like Jericho, Sting, SCU, etc. actually want to help the young guys instead of hindering them. It’s not at all the same. Tony Khan does need to do better at shooting some ideas down, but he’s learning for sure. At least they seem to work as a team, and not just to appease one person.

To Khan’s credit they actually rotate people and do a great job not having everyone appear every week. Rematches are usually spaced pretty far apart (Omega/Christian notwithstanding) if they happen at all. Look how many different people have main evented Dynamite this year alone. Meanwhile WWE “doesn’t have anything” for some of their best performers and run back the same matches every week, while having champions lose days before a title defense so only the same few people feel of any value. This is not a new problem, it’s been the same for years now.

But not for a good reason. If you're not a wrestling fan, Punk is just the guy going back to fake fighting after being humiliated at real fighting.

AEW is doing better than people thought they were going to be doing at this point..probably WAY better, so there's that. The biggest flaw I see right now is the flippy shite gets too out of hand sometimes, to the point to where it looks like the guys are working together instead of having an actual fight. Believability is something that would attract more of a mainstream audience, and right now, especially in the tag matches, believability is pretty low

Ya, he and that Rey Mysterio kid should just hang it up. No one will ever believe that guy either

AEW fanboys will claim nonsense but it’s not WWE yet. Both have good and bad.

WWE has better production and main event stories like Cena vs Reigns are better. AEW far to often has fifty near falls a match and the top and bottom of the card is a to even. Gets tired when every match feels like the exact same spotfest. However their mid card is more entertaining and they have more factions which is more fun. WWE has better women wrestlers but is confused on what to do with them. Tag division AEW is better. WWE when it puts its best foot forward is still the better product hands down. But AEW is more consistent in what it brings. So watch both.

Asuka was money last spring/summer. Baszler is like 40, she has no superstar potential. Rhea is Charlotte goth-style. Alexa has been money. Letting go of Bray has allowed to move forward with her. He had opportunity after opportunity to get into shape and he could never do it.

That pop he got when he came out it was awesome. The only other pop I remember coming close to that was when triple h came back from his torn quad.

Never understood the infatuation with this guy. His physique looks like shite, he isn't athletic, his MMA career was a laughable failure, and he is a whiny cry baby.

CM Punk is the IWC personified. That’s what’s going on. All the while, AEW has been absolutely the IWC outlet to try to “stick it to” the WWE. It’s a perfect match.

Punk... Daniel Bryan... Bray Wyatt.... the talent just keeps coming. I suspect Sasha Banks will be brought in to boost their women's division.

Meanwhile WWE keeps hacks like Baron Corbin who have never drawn a dime

Punk talks to the fans from second-person, as if he's speaking to them on a personal level... he's "one of them." WWE wishes it had just one guy who could connect with the fans the way Punk does.

When you say fans do you mean the average person who watches wrestling, or the hardcore smark neckbeard wrestling fan who subscribes to WON?

I'd say the fans who actually understand what the heck he's talking about, who understand the inner workings of the business.

frick Darby Allins tiny arse. Dude is weird as frick IRL. He is not a good dude.

I want to give AEW a chance, I do. But I can't stand the wrestling of Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, or the Bucks. I don't really like Moxley either, he is way too in love with the GCW style.

I'll watch Punk's segments, and Bryan Danielsons whenever he finally starts. Probably Bray Wyatts when he starts there as well. But overall, their product just doesn't appeal to me.right now.

Not that WWE does. They are doing everything they can to only appeal to shareholders at the expense of viewers and employees, and it will bite them in the arse very soon.

Whoever said they are going the WCW route kind of nailed it on the head

People who keep saying this are jumping right to the downfall of WCW, and completely ignoring the fact that WCW was really freaking good for a while, and to this day was the only promotion to not just challenge WWE, but actually overtake them. It’s not a bad roadmap to follow, especially with the benefit of seeing how it turned out for them and what could have been done to avoid it.

What's weird is Punk and Bryan (cuz you know he's coming sooner than later) are both the same ages that Hogan and Savage were when WCW signed them in 94.
