On July 24th, 2012, in a loss to the Cardinals, Kershaw gave up 8 earned runs in 5.2 innings to up his season ERA to 3.14.

Since that outing, which spans 116 starts, Kershaw has obviously been unreal.

Here is his cumulative stats since that start:

..W--L....ERA...GS......IP......H......ER....BB....SO....WHIP
.67-23....1.84....116...840.0...573...172...155...970...0.879

If you go back to August 17th, 2010, which covers 177 starts, his stats are:

..W--L....ERA...GS......IP......H......ER....BB....SO....WHIP
.98-37....2.08....177..1267.2...898...293...264..1409...0.916

He's must see TV, but he does need some postseason success. A lot of doubters out there that will always point out his postseason struggles

Reminds me of the nonsense people used to spew about Bonds before the 2002 postseason. I can't believe people rely on a sample size of less than 100 innings over 1500 innings of historically great work.

Fans always overrate the importance of the post season, especially in team sports.

What does this even mean?

Kershaw (or any team's ace) potentially has the greatest impact of any player on a 7 game playoff series.

If playoff Kershaw pitched like regular season Kershaw, you are taking about 2 starts and potentially action in a 3rd game in a series of shutdown ball. You only have to win 4 games, 2 should be guaranteed if Kershaw doesn't poop the bed

So I'd say Kershaw's postseason success is pretty fricking important to LAD. We are talking Randy Johnson going 3-0 in 2001 with a 1 ERA in the WS. Until Kershaw can put LAD on his back in the postseason he will always have that cloud over his head

Bumgarner is 24 and has 3 rings and a 0.25 ERA in 36 World Series innings. 2.14 ERA overall in his postseason career. If ya wanna talk what being lights out in the playoffs does for a team

Because post season is what matters. And when a pitcher has an ERA of almost double what his regular season ERA is, thats an issue. He did perform better last post season so maybe he has turned a corner. Unfortunately, he plays under a management team that is clueless as to how to make the team better. Their inability to find good relief pitching for going on 3 years now cost Kershaw yet another win tonight....and a bone head manager not bringing in his really good closer for a 4 out save. If I am Kershaw, I am looking to go to a team with a real GM next year.....maybe the Rangers.

Yep

Postseason starts are magnified. You can blow up in a start in the reg season and be fine. But your ace blowing up in G1 of a series is detrimental. People want to give Kershaw a pass for that when you simply cannot get blown up if you're the best pitcher in the game. No margin error. He's supposed to tilt the series like Pedro, Randy, roger, bum... That's what the greats do.

He's got a lot of time. If he can do it once and lead LAD to a ring all will be forgotten. Same happened with the big unit

Has only happened once. He has made 2 poor starts since 2013. No one can argue against that. Buts hes pretty much been his usual self in his other 6

He's also has 27 Losses or no decisions in games he gave up 2 runs or less. 16 of those he gave up 1 or less.
