If LSU had a Men's soccer team and kept its home-grown talent, it would make the NCAAs every year.

First soccer title for the school in 28 years. Coach Brunet got it done in his second year at the school, a clear indication he's one of the state's rising stars after building the ESA program into a state championship caliber program.

NCAA soccer must suck if that’s the case

Want me to name some of the elite guys that played in the state during my high school years? I’ll start with Jason Garey (the #1 overall pick in the MLS super draft after he was named the NCAA player of the year and named mvp of the national championship)

There’s a lot of really elite soccer talent in LA. I believe St Paul’s finished ranked #1 in the nation a few years ago

St Paul’s finished last season ranked #1 in the country by USA Today. They had a nice team again this year.

That ranking is kind of silly. St. Paul’s wasn’t anywhere near the level of their usual team but they were still very good. Brunet has done a great job at Catholic but they’re also loaded with talent.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the split comes to soccer soon. It’s been at least 13 years since a public school won a Div. 1 title.

Last year’s ranking wasn’t kind of silly. St. Paul’s went and beat top teams from Florida and Texas. That is specifically why they were given that ranking from Top Drawer Soccer and USA Today.

Yes, Maxpreps rankings are silly and for some reason always has a Louisiana team up top. They need to reevaluate their formula.

States play soccer at different parts of the year. That factors into it, I think

But California, Texas and Florida play at the same time as Louisiana. Not too shabby

I’ll add Jason Kreis to the list of elite State talent. Kreis grew up in Omaha and played in HS at Mandeville. He is arguably the greatest soccer player to play in Louisiana. 3x All-American at Duke. Played on the USMNT from 1996-2000. He scored the first goal in franchise history for the Dallas Burn and Real Salt Lake ; 2 clubs which has never been done before. 1999 MLS MVP, and first American born player to win the award. All-time leading scorer in MLS history from 2004-2007 (currently he is ranked 8th in all time scoring). First player to score 100 MLS goals. In 2009 with Real Salt Lake, he became the youngest head coach in MLS history (34) to win MLS Cup.
