“No one ever gives God credit when the lose, only when they win, no one ever says oh wait the good Lord slipped me up behind the line of scrimmage.”

- George Carlin.

I’m not an atheist like ole George but the dude was hilarious and the above quote was solid comedy gold.

Just completely untrue.

Jim Kelly:

quote:

Over time, he believes prayers have been answered. The way he sees it, the first Super Bowl loss prepared him for the second, which prepared him for the third, which prepared him for the fourth. All of them prepared him for the loss of Hunter. Which prepared him for the loss of his health and his physical wholeness. And all of it made him ready for spiritual elevation, and the opportunity to elevate others. “If God decides tomorrow is my day, I’m ready,” Jim says. “In the past, of course, I would have been mad. I would have been scared. But now I’m not worried one bit. And I know I will see my son again.

It's amazing how people who have done a lot of bad things in life can say yeah well Christ has redeemed me. To that I'd like to say prove it.

Look at the Pete Hesgeth testimony.

I watched a lot more football decades ago than now. This wasn't a common thing back then. When Tebow did it he was generally ostracized. Before him, Warner was one of the few.

Indeed the NFL implemented a stupid rule circa mid-90s that all players had to be off the field 5 minutes after a game for security reasons. IRL, this targeted the NFL players from both teams who would kneel for prayer at midfield after games. This practice did not originate with him, but Reggie White (GOAT) became it's ringleader. The NFL did not want its players projecting Jesus or Christianity.

Not because of his expressed faith in Jesus. He was scorned for that.

ESPN 2011

He was celebrated because he was one of CFB's all-time greats.

As the OP, I agree. Christianity offers the fullness of truth.

MAGA has brought a lot of people back to God… it’s not surprising to me. Trump has made a lot of people see the light and realize they can achieve anything as long as they believe in God and Jesus

Athletes have always been very religious, literally my entire like they've been this way. That also never seems to stop them from engaging in various forms of degenerate behaviors.

Kim Kardashian goes to church.

Like Taylor Swift and vote registration campaigns, athlete religiosity has a much smaller effect than you'd expect.

I mean hell, we had Tim Tebow over a decade ago but it wasn't like other Athletes weren't alluding to God long before that.

Media coverage wasn't as robust in the era before Warner. There were plenty of Kurt Warners prior to Kurt Warner but the media coverage was far less.

Notre Dame, a private catholic school in Indiana, was by far the most elite and famous college football team in America for decades.

There was even a Hyundai commercial with an all white nuclear family in which the dad was funnily trolling his angsty daughters.

What does this have to do with Jesus Christ?

Om everything I don't even know if someone of you even understand who our Lord is the way you use him to justify foolishness.

Thats the entire story of the Bible. We are all flawed and make mistakes. That’s doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences for our actions, but God will forgive anything. He wants a relationship with us.

If your daddy is a billionaire who sets you up in real estate and you hire a team of lawyers working 24 seven to keep you out of jail and break contracts then you have a right wing media machine that exalts you as the chosen one - then yes anything is possible.

Even if you destroy an upstart football league and bankrupt two casinos people will believe.
