Does this really effect your day to day life? I can't imagine why anyone would really give a shite.

This is a BS statement. I like the sport of baseball and understand it just fine. I HATE, no longer follow and have a long list of grievances with MLB however.

Yep. I like baseball just fine. I used to love it when I was a kid. I just don't watch a lot of sports anymore and baseball is pretty low on the list as it is. That said, I'm not butt hurt that baseball isn't falling over themselves to grab my attention. It seems like Chris Rock is. Baseball shouldn't feel obligated to change for anyone, unless they want to.

Bringing attention is doing something about it. What he said wasnt wrong except the president cool part. Baseball hs awesome in person..slow and boring on tv unless your team is playing. I cant watch any team thats not mine.
and like it or not..young black people do tend to set the cool factor...its been that way forever..and im middle aged white guy who doesnt get whats cool...but i know its true.

Too many in here hurt thinking rock attacked their preciousbaseball when hes a fan giving an opinion

Baseball is long and boring and you wanna talk about soccer

A baseball game lasts almost twice as long as a soccer match. Soccer never takes over 1:45 unless there's overtime, which is almost never.

Entitled to what? Are you mad at me for making a simple statement---some innocent people don't like people that treated them like shite ?

I'm not excluding people from acts of forgiveness, but not everyone is holier than thou.

Baseball is a sport that requires a little bit of money. Yes you can pay your $25 dollars and go play little league baseball but you get 0 coaching, especially at the younger ages. You either have to have a father who knows the game and will teach you or you have to pay to learn through lessons or an upper level team. Idk what you say you have to have some coaching to be a decent hitter or fielder and it just cost money. Football and basketball don't require much at all. All basketball requires is showing up at a city court and find someone with a ball. Football all you need is a 5 dollar ball and an open field. Baseball requires a little more. I just don't think the impoverished areas have the extra income to get good their kids good a baseball. Why are they going to keep playing when they are playing kid pitch and strike out every time or don't know how to catch a popup when you can go to the court everyday and put up free throws until you can shot a little bit?
A few things...

1. You are saying baseball requires money to play travel ball to get better coaching than youth leagues... but basketball is the same way. AAU is huge, and that costs money.

2. Baseball doesn't require much to play. I can remember as a kid playing with a tennis ball and an old wooden bat. A kid can get a brand new glove for $30.

3. You are assuming all black people are poor and can't afford to play baseball. That just isn't true anymore.

You want to know why I think baseball is less popular? Because it's more of a hassle to play. For example... I don't need anybody else to play basketball. I can go outside and shoot by myself. Or I can meet up with a few friends and play 2 on 2. Or go to the gym and play 5 on 5 full court. You can easily play.

How are you going to play baseball by yourself? You at least need one other person to throw to and hit. You can't be jacking bombs in the street.. you need to go to an open area. You can't even really play a "pick-up game" of baseball... you'd need 18 people.

It's just more difficult to pick up and play.

A lot of schools don't even have middle school teams. It's hard to recruit kids to play baseball if the first time it's available to play in school is in high school.

And on top of that, baseball does a terrible job of making their sport seem fresh and exciting. They are terrible at promoting the star players. They should be making kids WANT to play baseball because it looks fun and is cool. And they are failing at that.

Rather than eat popcorn, why don't you help the brothers stop being dead beat dads or robbing gas stations?

This might make sense if it wasn't for the fact that the DR is not exactly a rich country and has been producing a good # of players for a long time.

People may not realize this, but the NBA was not that big until the 80's and 90's. As recently as 1983 the FINALS were shown on tape delay after the local news. The NCAA tourney blew up in the 80's as well. The growth of basketball, which does have a much higher percentage of black players has more to do with declining interest in baseball in cities and black communities would be my guess.

"The old negro leagues were a carnival too, there were actual clowns on the roster." My favorite quote in that video. Yes Im sure they were, just like the NFL and NBA are today.
