Chicago Blackhawks will not wear Pride-themed jerseys

Kinda hard to tell if the primary reasoning is pushback from the players or truly a safety concern, although the latter doesn’t really make sense to me. I predict weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

The Chicago Blackhawks will not wear Pride-themed warmup jerseys before Sunday's Pride Night game against Vancouver because of security concerns involving a Russian law that expands restrictions on activities seen as promoting LGBTQ2S+ rights in the country.
The decision was made by the NHL organization following discussions with security officials within and outside the franchise, according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke to the AP on Wednesday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the move.

The Blackhawks have worn Pride warmup jerseys previously and donned special warmup jerseys on some other themed nights this season. There had been ongoing conversations about a Pride jersey with the players, according to the person who talked to the AP, but the organization made the decision to hold Pride Night without the jerseys this year.

It’s pushback from the players. Nobody is threatening a hockey team over wearing rainbow jerseys

The NHL is easily the most diverse league culturally. And lots of these players come from blue collar families in rural towns both in Canada and internationally (Europe) as well as in America
People don’t realize how conservative so many of these players are even though the countries they’re coming from are typically more “liberal” than America.
I’m not surprised the NHL players, especially the Europeans who have no reason to support modern American political trends, are the ones basically saying “no thanks!”
ETA: the part that gets me is the constantly changing acronym. I don’t know who decides what that is or the official list. I feel like even though we have the + on there, there’s still a new letter added every so many months or each year. What is the point of the + if we just keep adding letters?

Good on them standing up to the Gay Nazis

Gay people already have full rights. "Gay Pride" is nothing more than a social and political movement, and therefore has no place in sports.

Hopefully more players will continue to stand up. The pride jersey is not about inclusivity it is about submittal.

Russian law
Boy, the NHL public relations folks really had to do some mental gymnastics to get out of that one.

Here’s the deal. The LGBTQ community has a whole month of celebration. June. And it gets bigger and more publicized every year.
The NHL’s regular season doesn’t overlap into June. So why do we need special “Pride” nights throughout the season? Why is the NHL a platform for this? Why does the slogan “Hockey is for Everyone” a thing? Who is out there actively saying hockey isn’t for everyone?
It’s just… not needed. And intrusive. Black history in hockey night, for example, feels more natural since it occurs in February, which is Black History month… in the middle of the NHL season.
These Pride nights occur continuously at different times in different cities throughout the season and therefore stay in the hockey news/zeitgeist continuously. Why is continuously celebrating sexuality part of hockey? It’s weird.

Is the NHL just trying to break into an untapped market with this shite? I’ve been to a bunch of Blackhawk games and gays are not usually attending those games. I know they like to play tummy sticks so maybe they think hockey sticks is another type of activity??

Are there hetero themed jerseys?

Good for the players. Finally a sport that takes a stand against wokeness

Deep down people know it's unnatural so they're overcompensating/trying to convince themselves it's normal?

Why do we need to celebrate Subaru drivers scissoring, people chopping off their genitalia and dudes sodomizing one another? What ever happened to "what happens in our bedroom is none of your concern?"

I didn’t read the link, I’m assuming there are some Russian players on the Blackhawk’s squad?

Then again, it could just be an attack of morality. How wild would that be?
