This is pie in the sky nonsense. There's no way to get 2 billion in funding from the city/county/state in order to pull this off. I can draw great pictures, too.

This is kinda par for the course when you consider Kevin Warren runs the team. Would be funny if they bought another huge tract of land in Indiana to go along with the one in Arlington Heights. Chicago and the state of Illinois would lose their shite over all those tax dollars going to Indiana

the Bears are offering to pay for the stadium

Pretty sure this is not true.

Despite that major commitment, Bears executives sought to fill an estimated $900 million “gap” through state funding via a bond from the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, a state agency created in the 1980s to finance new sports stadiums.

Bears seek $855M in public funding for infrastructure to build stadium

There are awesome areas directly in the city. Granted, they're not as safe as they used to be. We lived in one of them (Lakeview) but it was pretty much time to go not long after covid when women were getting robbed at gunpoint walking home from the train and there was a carjacking a block from our place. And of course the financial cliff the city and state are speeding towards, leading to massively increased taxes and fees which won't even touch the underlying problem. And the politics there are insane and destructive to communities, quality of life, etc.

But I digress...there are awesome neighborhoods in the city...for now, at least.

call their bluff, like St.louis and Cardinal fans did to Cardinal ownership, with their "looking at property in East St. Louis, Ill " bullshite. they got crushed by fans and media, and ran back with tail between their legs.

NW Indiana burbs are easier to get to for Essentislly all of the city of Chicago and folks in SW burbs vs Arlington Heights. Anyone in north or west burbs would be getting screwed though.

NW Indiana is an extension of Chicagoland.

Anybody comparing Gary, Indiana to Chicago is legitimately retarded.

lol, wut? Im by no means intimately familiar with the current Chicago traffic but this is absurd. It could be 2 hours for a huge portion of their fan base that can take the train to be within walking distance of soldier field.

Soldier field sucks to get to and there’s nothing for the owners to invest in to help expand around it. It’s hard to blame owners of these stadiums that only have 8-12 games a year to not want to be able to host other events. Frankly it’s good business

I’m happy you believe that and wish that you never find the desire or way to move down south ever.

This article you posted supports what has been said; that the Bears are paying for the stadium itself.

The sticking point has always been the surrounding infrastructure. The Bears can't just build roads and commuter lines without the state being involved anyway.

The Bears would probably even be willing to meet the state somewhere in the middle on this if somebody would negotiate in good faith with them, but again, the state leadership has made it clear that this isn't a priority for them, hence the current situation.

It's not that absurd. I get what he's saying. Arlington Heights is a damn haul to the NW from downtown.

We obviously don't know exactly where the Bears would build in Indiana, but Soldier Field is closer to the state border than it is to Arlington Heights. It would likely be a straight shot down 90/94.

Hammond, IN (where the casino is) is without a doubt an easier drive for majority of people who live in Chicago. The skyway takes you right there. They’re both roughly the same distance in miles but the Kennedy will always tip the scale.

Come on over here to South Bend, they'll compliment the Cubs nicely.
