That's too bad, he was a very good golfer and an early showman. RIP

I read an article once where Chi Chi had an awesome golf trick shot. He would tee up two balls side by side. Hit a power fade with one and then a draw with the other and it usually took him several tries but he could get the golf balls to collide in air. Not consistently but many onlookers have seen him do it apparently.

Saw Chi-Chi and his sword dance routine many times at the New Orleans tournament.

He was a great personality and did a lot for charity. He really mopped up on the Senior tour, winning 22 times.

RIP, Chi-Chi.

Damn, RIP. Wouldn't have lasted this long without the famous copper bracelet. Godspeed.

I watched Chi Chi on the practice range at the WOrld Series of Golf in the 1980's. He kept us entertained with his golf tricks and jokes for a solid 15 minutes. Funny guy and seened like a genuinely good human being.

RIP

My Chi Chi story: I was covering the old PGA Senior tournament at Greystone in Birmingham back in the 1990s. It was in June and it was about six shades hotter than hell.

Chi Chi had a good round so they brought him into the press tent for an interview afterward. He came in looking like he’d just crawled off a page in GQ and without a bead of sweat on him, sat down and asked for a cup of hot black coffee.

Everyone looked at him like he was crazy, and he grinned and said, “You guys think this is hot? I guess you have never chopped sugar cane in a field outside San Juan.” I had to bite my tongue to keep from guffawing.

As a little kid, I sorta watched golf because my dad did. Of course, it’s not as exciting as other sports and bland at times.

Then I see Chi Chi and realize it looks fun to play.

My Chi Chi story - back in the '90s the Senior Tour Championship was played at the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach for a few years. They had a guy on the 1st tee announcing the player's names and where they're from.

Chi Chi's up and the announcer says "Next up on the tee from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez!" Everyone claps and someone in the crowd yells something in Spanish. Chi Chi responds in Spanish and turns to his caddy and loud enough for everyone to hear he says "Watch my bag there's a Mexican in the crowd". Raucous laughter ensues

Me too!
I'm glad someone posted that scene as it saved me from having to find it.
