Went to a game and rode metro, was very convenient.

The Metro is an excellent public transportation see system.

Yeah, VT is already building a pretty large campus there and of course Amazon’s new HQ is right down the road. Crystal and Pentagon Cities have had like 8-10 fancy new apartment complexes go up or are going up over the last couple of years and Crystal Drive itself has had some real development recently.

new stadium will also be next to metro in Alexandria near the Potomac Yard neighborhood. They’re going to build a whole development around it.

Did they complete the new metro station at Potomic yard? I know when I was there this past spring, they were still working on it.

This is going to kill what’s left of the fan support for the Wizards. Caps will be fine though.

Yeah, the Caps will be fine. Nobody in Virginia is going to give a shite about the Wizards.

DC is proposing a $500 million investment for the Caps/Wizards to stay in DC. Virginia is proposing $ 2 billion to move across the river.

Man, this is going to be a traffic nightmare. That section of 1 is already a disaster.

I want to know what Youngkin gave away in our tax dollars before deciding if it was a good deal or not.

They call it the Innovation Campus, but it is really for IT and to continue to increase its research budget.

Thats pretty cool.

Speaking of that site. Traffic already sucks but it will be an absolute cluster if they move into that area.

Sucks but the onus is in the city to provide a more secure inviting environment.. the access and arena are good logistically speaking, haven’t been in a few years but it was a cool spot that had some troubling potential surrounding.

The area around Capital One is perfectly safe. This is happening because DC wouldn't give Ted the $600M in public funds he wanted for upgrades.

The nice thing about being a sports owner in the DC area is you have 3 different jurisdictions you can play off of one another. Snyder was famous for this.

that area isn’t what it was before 2000. Crime is increasing a ton downtown again and DC went from providing 27 cops for events at Capital One arena to THREE because of staffing issues. So much help the defund the police movement did.

Oh I'm aware, but this move isn't happening because of the spike in crime in DC this year. This is pure economics for Ted. He has a terrible lease at CapOne he wanted to get out of and DC wasn't going to give him public funds for upgrades. This move solves both of those problems.

Chinatown will almost certainly fall back into being a crime infested hellhole now because all of the bars and restaurants that thrived being near the stadium will leave. None of these places can survive on the 1K people that go to Mystics and Georgetown games

For sure. Both parties are losers in this situation. Can’t stand either of them.

I can’t remember the amount but I think the land lease payment was around $30 something million.

I’ve been to CapOne a bunch of times and always liked the whole facility and area. Same with the OKC arena which is now apparently outdated. I get owners are going to lobby for public money and aren’t gonna turn it down when someone has their hand out, but I don’t see any issue with either facility at least from a fan standpoint. Maybe I’m a simple person

I don’t think they’re giving any funding to it.
