Governor and Owner of the teams will be at an event in NOVA tomorrow morning expecting to announce.

I’m a NOVA native and I’m not a fan. Suburban teams suck. But I also don’t blame them for getting the hell out of DC. Nova is a lot nicer but more bland in a lot of ways.

Isnt the MCI center (or whatever it is now) only like 20 years old?

Plus next to a metro station. Went to a game and rode metro, was very convenient.

About 25. It was MCI then Verizon. Now Capital One Arena.

ETA; new stadium will also be next to metro in Alexandria near the Potomac Yard neighborhood. They’re going to build a whole development around it.

It will be shiny, new, unaffordable, and horrible bland.

Ted is a scum bag. Leaned on the city for a new practice facility and is now trying to get more money and I guess he said f you to DC after they wouldn’t put up with his grifting anymore for his underachieving franchises. This is going to kill what’s left of the fan support for the Wizards. Caps will be fine though.

Bowser is a clown too. Reduced cop support from 27 to 3 at the arena. DC’s crime is on its way back to the 80s-90s.

I saw Coldplay's excellent "Viva La Vida" tour with an OT 7.5 at that arena in Chinatown back in the late aughts. Was a really fun / cool area back then but I'm guessing it's turned into a shithole since? Can def see how that arena is super outdated nowadays as it was pretty meh even back then.

Ted is totally a scum bag. The way he jacked prices up after the cup was awful. He’s like the anti Arthur blank.

Dem mayor running the city into the ground. You’ve seen this story before. D.C. was awesome between 2010-2019 and the area by Nats park is really nice now a days but the city is going backwards again. Murders are up 33%, car theft up 111% ..clown world.

I still like Chinatown but DC did what every city did the last 3 years. Basically told police to frick off and the DAs stopped prosecuting anything. It’s spiraled out of control. There’s a lot that’s still nice about it but all it takes is a couple of teenagers to ruin your life.

Makes no sense other than to hold DC hostage for upgrades. Capital One is the easiest stadium to get to anywhere with tons of good restaurants and bars around. It’s not like it’s in SE.

It’s crazy that the Nationals are the only team left in DC now. Who would have ever thought that they would be the franchise most loyal to the city out of the bunch?

That’s the wild thing about this

Once the green turtle closed its doors at the area it was a bad omen

I know traffic up there is a nightmare since my inlaws are from there, but this looks like a 15 minute (no traffic) move across the Potomac. While technically a move to the suburbs, this seems nothing like, for example, the Lions and Pistons playing in Pontiac and Auburn Hills not too long ago. The very nature of DC makes the geographical and population much smaller than other major cities, while the metro is obviously on par.

Can't avoid it not being as cool as being in the district though. That's for sure.

The new DC attorney general has been shaking businesses down non-stop and sounds like this was the final nail in the coffin for the owner to make the move.

Any region with the sole industry as politics can go frick off. No reason to have that much wealth in that region other than buying public policy.

Ever heard of the internet? Pretty much every megabyte of data goes through loudon county. NOVAs wealth extends far beyond the government.
