Cancelling spring games. Is this to not have to set a depth chart to avoid transfers?

Not sure the advantage unless coaches somehow think it will help them reduce kids getting pissed and transferring because they are not getting first team reps.

Does it allow coaches to say they are carrying competition for positions into the fall and there is not a clear starter?

Probably partly that. But I also heard coaches don't want to display their players for all the other coaches to see and have them come poaching their roster.

Spring games were worthless even before the transfer portal and NIL era. They were a complete waste of time when I played from 2007 to 2011. Our coaches always said it was for the fans and media. We did 10 minute quarters and a running clock

It is supposedly so opposing teams don’t get game film on their lesser seen guys.

This was Matt Rhules excuse. He's got all those players everyone wants yet can't win games with them. Kind comes off as an excuse for his bad coaching. He's been crying since he got there.

Texas is the only one i consider having a good, reasonable excuse of those canceling thus far. They've played a ton of games the past 2 years and their whole program is behind schedule with the extended season and then roster retention since they have their own portal period after the season. Then the 2 late coaching changes. I can buy Sarks reasoning.

And converting a spring game into a single practice puts any form of dent into all that?

He’s ditching a public-facing event for the same primary reasons the other programs will, he just has a few extra less impactful ones to hide behind

They’re all having spring games, just behind closed doors

LSU must have a sucky spring game. GDay is fun as hell and I’d be pissed if it went away.

It took coaches telling you that?

What is football for beside fans and media?

I think it’s because everyone in power in CFB wakes up everyday and comes up with ways to make the sport less enjoyable.

It does. We rarely pull more than like 30k people. I always sort of attributed it to the weird apathy LSU fans can have about sports that i think is not so present in other major SEC programs. Plus LSU has reliably had an incredible baseball team for going on 40 years now and I think most fans mentally are on to baseball season. It’s always been a great reprieve to get to the next football season.

Link to said crying?

I’ve seen every single press conference of his and I seemed to miss that.

I always thought LSU should do like Ohio St has done and take it on the road. They would sell out Independence Stadium in Shreveport easy for the spring game
