If you know the Buteras you know he has little tolerance for wokeness. Unless it’s something blatant and truly out of line he’s not going to let his player get whacked for something like this. Good man.

White redditors from countries other than America are leading a heroic charge to get Cavalli permanently banned from the league

He says stuff like that in every post. It’s his internet message board schtick, because he’s about as cool as having an internet message board schtick.

Perhaps. Batters should stop the posing and bat flipping. Equally punk behavior.

I mean, it's disrespectful to call anyone Boy in the manner that Cavalli did so. What positive reason is there to call Wilson Contreras Boy?
Maybe this is just not something I understand because it's not a part of my culture.

What culture? LGTBQ?
Boy is used in athletic settings across multiple sports to demean and talk smack. Especially in the South. It’s not surprising Cavalli used it nor is it surprising a bunch of whites whose only interaction with brown people is when they turn on their TV are offended by it
ETA:
My oldest played in a tournament in GA last weekend and several sit down boys were uttered. The horror I know.

I understand smack talk and the intentionally of demeaning language. Calling someone a slow frick after getting thrown out by a mile. Calling someone an Old Man or an Old frick before or after making a good play where athleticism beat out experience. Calling someone a Stupid frick because they made an inexcusable error. calling someone a Pussy (pussycat or female genitalia, take your pick) before or after a display of timidness.
But what does it mean to call someone Boy? I didn't grow up in the South. I played a variety of sports growing up and I never remember anyone calling someone Boy in a demeaning way. I remember other words being used, but not that one.
BTW, Cavalli said adterwards "It hurt my heart, knowing that, if there's a 13-year-old black kid in D.C. that sees that — that looked up to me and thinks that he perceived it in a way that wasn't intended the way that it came out, and then he's not looking up to me anymore. That hurts my heart. It's really tough. I've learned a lot. The intention was perceived different than what my heart is and who I am as a person, my character,". He knew it was wrong and stated he wouldn't use Boy again in such a way. Time will tell if he means it or not.
Oh, I forgot calling someone a Fat frick because they are husky/chunky/heavy/overweight. That's demeaning but something that a person can change about themselves.

So atta boy is ok, sit down boy is racist. OK, got it.
Contreras didn't even think it was racist, he was just mad about being called boy because he's a grown arse man

It’s very much a southern thing to shite talk by calling people boy. He’s from Oklahoma I think so that was probably in he and his friends vernacular all growing up. It doesn’t mean anything. Black dudes in the south love saying “Yea, boy” after emasculating an opponent. It’s just something said down here. Of course there are still assholes that use it the derogatory way but in a sports setting it’s just another word. Would you rather him use bitch or boy?
No he knows that’s what he’s supposed to say because pussies from the northeast aren’t familiar with shite talking using the word boy. They get so erect to call some thing racist that they don’t want to understand context.

In the year of our Lord 2026, I've learned that if you mean it then you stand by it. If not, then you're a pussy (cat or female genitalia, take your pick). He's not getting cancelled. MLB isn't going to do a single thing, and if they did then MLBPA would fight the league on any penalities.

I agree. But you can’t tell me Cade Cavalli really cares about a 13 year old black kid in DC interpreting how he used the word boy. That’s PR crafted to avoid the onslaught and the Nats FO did a good job of that.

No, that’s not racist, especially in that context. He wasn’t talking to a 13-year old kid in D.C.
It was the same thing as saying, “sit down, kid…”
