Be honest, you know Bama shouldn’t be in

I don’t think Alabama should be anywhere near a playoff.

12 is way too many.

I do not think a team that has zero ranked wins and a SOS like SMU’s should even be considered.

No matter what the outcome, expect major changes in the system. If smu gets left out because they lost an extra game while a team like Indiana got to stay home, rest and gets to waltz into the playoffs, that is a screw system. Could result in teams not playing in conference championship games. If bama is left out, Sanky will figure out a way it never happens again.

That's the big issue for me. It's bigger than just SMU vs Alabama. For Indiana to sit home and be automatically in, that's really unfair for the Conference champ participants

I don't like it, either, but for a team like SMU that isn't as well known and has no good wins, that was their chance to clinch a spot.

The system is screwed up.

The committee should have ranked SMU appropriately all along. No business rankings teams high after this many games when you’ve lost to 100% of the ranked teams you’ve played and beaten 0% of the ranked teams you’ve played.

Same as last year when the committee had their ridiculous rankings all year with Oregon up top the whole time and Alabama suppressed down at 7 or whatever it was.

The last couple years the committee has played way too many games and feverishly tried to cultivate storylines and set things up based on future results. It has created ridiculous scenarios and forces them to use terrible logic.

SMU has 0 ranked wins — I think they played like 1 team in the top half of the ACC before losing to Clemson. There is no guarantee that they are in, nor should there be. When you lose to the only decent teams that you play, you should be out. It doesn’t matter how ‘close’ the game is. Uga lost by 3 last year to Bama in the SECCG and dropped out — so I don’t want to hear about how teams ‘shouldn’t be penalized for losing’ those games. SMU would be penalized not simply for losing their CCG, but for not beating either of the ranked teams that they played in the season. You have to look at the SOS at some point.

So what about Indiana with a work SOS than Clemson but the same record going into CC Weekend? Why should they be allowed to stay in?

UGA last year was a 4 team field and they had the same number of wins and losses as the 4 teams ahead of them but no Conference title.

Last year isn’t this year

And at least they tried, going up the the defending champion top 10 wolverines.

For trying, I’ll be gracious and rank them over SMU.

How do you keep Indiana in and kick SMU out? Neither beat a team worth a shite this season. SMU was ranked ahead of Indiana going into this weekend. So Indiana lucked out that Penn State had the tiebreaker over them and went to the B1G championship while they got to stay home. SMU wasn’t that lucky and had to play in their championship.

SMU should be a lock, because losing to Vandy and then losing to Oklahoma by 3 tds while putting up only 3 points, well that just isn’t a playoff team. Not a very good team at all.

I would love to be pleasantly surprised otherwise come around noon-time announcements but I wouldn’t be surprised if SMU ends up penalized for playing in (and losing) their championship game and Bama is in.

TV talking heads love em some Bama and The Mouse is likely exerting its own powerful influence/control over college football to ensure the highest ratings possible.

Bama being the national brand it is will draw more viewers than SMU. Doesn’t mean it’s right …but it’s simply a fact.

If baseball were similar in setting up its playoffs, a Yankees or Dodgers will get the benefit of the doubt every single time over a Rays or Rangers because of brand recognition and subsequent ratings.

Like I said, maybe there’ll be a surprise this afternoon. SMU strength of schedule is brought up but they can only play who was on their schedule. Had the ACC not had a championship game, SMU would likely be in. We’ll see if they pay a price for having earned their way into the conference’s title game.
