Nah. He is the same player...MVP on his team. Look at the Astros hitters. Bregman is the MVP of the Astros first half the season this year. This includes the reigning AL MVP.

Pretty sure he leads the team in HRs, RBIs, Runs, BBs, Slugging, 2Bs

by a few months.

Bregman is getting a lot of love right now, but he has been a streaky hitter so far in his career. If he keeps putting up the numbers he has over the past 5-6 weeks, then yeah he will have the better career, but I doubt it is sustainable over a season.

When looking at how much more Correa has already produced than Bregman it’s a pretty big deal.

Figured this could use a bump

Updated Career stats, I repeat, career and not season

Bregman

.283 AVG----.362 OBP----.858 OPS----136 OPS+

Correa

.281 AVG----.359 OBP----.846 OPS----133 OPS+

Correa has played a whole season more than Bregman though. What if Bregman hadn't broken his thumb senior year in HS and went straight to pro ball at 18 like Correa did? You have to look at averages.

You still feel this way?

Since the all-star break, his BA has gone from .288 to .289, his OBP from .389 to .390, and his OPS has dipped slightly from .928 to .919. He has hit 5 more home runs, 10 more doubles, and 19 more RBIs in 32 games since the all-star break. He has reached base in all but two games this year and has an MLB best reaching base in his last 45 straight road games.

IMO, this notion of him being a "streaky player" is overblown. It was based upon a season and a couple months in the MLB and largely based upon his slow start when he was initially called up.

Bregman just "broke out" while so many were injured. He's playing with confidence and looks stronger and happy.

If he is not hit by pitch I expect him to be in same conversation with all time greats koufax and hank Greenberg as best Jewish baseball player ever.

Fwiw Hofer Greenberg hit 58 hr in '38 in 154 games and had 184 rbi in '37, 2nd most ever, in 154 game season.

Bregman is like 5 months older Do you really think that makes a discernible difference? And a whole 100 games?!?!? So less than 2/3 of a season

so 5 months in age and less than 2/3 of a season equates to three more years needed to reassess?

Yes. Streaky isn't the right word though. He ebbs and flows like every other player.

Yeah, because he's been on a tear the past 10-15 games and went 4-4 last night. Last week his BA was < .280. He's hit .500 over the past 7 days and .395 over the last 14.

Fwiw, i don't think this is right. Last night they said he's reached in 84 of 86 games. He's played in more than 86 games this season.

I'd like to see him hit > .310 for a season, and I'd wager a little money that he will in next year.

Correa is the safe choice, he will keep you in the talk. Bregman will do crazy shite to win.

I'll take crazy shite to win.

100 games with how little each has played right now can be huge.

Wasn't aware the gap in age was only 5 months, saw a year.

Also Bregman needs another year like this to catch Correa in WAR according to bbr

Same, Bregman is easily my favorite player on the team and has been since the day he was drafted. As far as who the better player is, Correa is going to get the nod for now....With that said how fricking unstoppable would the Astros be if Correa was playing as well as Bregman right now?

I do wish they had taken Benintendi instead of Tucker, hindsight 20/20

Or Nola instead of Aiken

had they taken Nola, they wouldn't have Bregman either. Aiken not signing allowed Bregman to be a possibility, although if I was putting a team together Nola over Bregman wouldn't exactly be a terrible thing.

Everyone says this because they used the supplemental #2 pick on Bregman but they also took Tucker #5 which was their own pick. With out the extra pick at 2 they are picking 4th. Would Bregman definitely have been gone? Hard to say. The 3rd pick by Colorado was a HS SS and the 4th a college pitcher.
