check out my thread about Yunel trade haters. Buster Olney with some more trade news involving the braves.

I wonder if even one Brave called or texted Yunel to say goodbye and wish him luck.

this is a terrible trade for atl in the long run, bravetards

yes, we'd get nothing for McClouth. Talk about trading low.
id take anything we could get for him to get his absurd contract of the books. we have capable outfielders if we make a trade for one at the deadline

True, getting nothing for him isn't really the right phrase, I would take nothing in return if it meant him getting the hell out of Atlanta but nobody will want him.

My problem is that I truly expect Yunel to have a much better second half and Alex to have a much worse second half. I think we made our team worse this year. I hope I'm wrong and Alex keeps up his power surge. If Yunel was actually that awful in the club house, then maybe he wouldn't have come around in Atlanta in the 2nd half

Maybe the change of scenery helps A Gon's AVG? He was hitting in the AL East playing Sabathia, Shields, Lester, etc. Hopefully he produces better off of NL pitching. Likewise, Yunel now has to face that pitching. He's gonna piss him off.
umm....
johan, halladay, hamels, hanson, hudson, jurrjens, josh johnson, strasburg?
plus pitchers parks in turner and miami and citi field
as opposed to launching pads such as yankee stadium, fenway, and toronto
its not much easier

sometimes you gotta play for the present. old team, lets hope we can do something while we've got all the old men

That's pretty much all we've done for the last 5 years. Problem with that is when it doesn't work out, we're screwed.
Due to our trades, we really have no valuable trade pieces when we need to go after someone of value. Sure we have our 4 top arms and Freeman, which I hope are untouchable, then you really have noone worth much on the trade market

Frank Wren is such a shitty GM.
Has he forgotten that Yunel is one of the best young players on the team ?
They could have gotten A. Gonzalez for cheap this past offseason. He is having a career year. Yunel is having a bad year.
I'm sorry but a good career hitter > good half season hitter.
Potential and Young > Old and Sub-Par career.

LOL
I just don't get all the criticism of this trade. It seems to me that the criticism is based on the future which is fine except why would anyone be that dead set on having Yunel be part of our future?
I just don't see how at some point during this season every Braves fan didn't just say, ok, that's it. Enough is enough with this lazy, moody moron. He's not good enough to be a diva, period.
Most people seem to agree, another positive review of the trade from Buster Olney: "Tremendous trade for the Braves. Gonzalez has very affordable $2.5m option for 2011. Said Frank Wren on phone: "Without that, would not have made the deal." Also, the smallish lefty the Braves got in the deal is "filthy ... like a little Billy Wagner," says he person who signed him -- former Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi. This is an absolutely great trade for Atlanta. The Braves have one of the best clubhouses in baseball, and that Escobar was having problems says a whole lot about him; not many have problems with ATL."

He won't have to play Hanson, Huddy, Or JJ
And the depth of the rotations is much better in the AL East then they NL. I don't see how you could make an argument there.
Sabathia, Burnett, Chamberlain Lackey, Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, Shields, Price

A player has never been more overhpyed in the history of Earth than Yunel Escobar today on this thread.
I guarantee you will look back in a few years at this trade and will not say the Braves are worse off because they did this deal.

It's as if the Braves just traded Hanley Ramirez for Cesar Izturis. Escobar will never be anything more than a flashy SS with average numbers at the plate, with a piss poor attitude to boot.

How has he been overhyped?
No one except for people in the Braves clubhouse know how little or big of a distraction his "antics" have been to the ball club. People have been assuming they are a huge issue when they don't really know. By doing so, it makes the trade seem more favorable towards the Braves.
Based solely on a numbers perspective, I would much rather have Yunel than Alex. And that's not just over the next few years. I would prefer to have Yunel the rest of this year. Yunel has enough at bats to show that he is line drive hitter that gets on base at a high clip. Alex is a guy with a little more power that strikes out a lot and barely walks. You have to think that each will regress towards their mean the 2nd half of the season.
And of course another article only affirms the general thought that Alex is going to regress, and it will probably even be magnified at Turner Field.
Gonzalez and his JUST ENUFF HR's
