I'm hearing absurd numbers Indiana is throwing around. 7 million plus a year.

As he should. He's underperforming with some great talent.

I personally think he's a very good nba coach but it feels like the clock is ticking in Boston.

ainge is the one who has done a crap
Job. Remember 5 years ago when Boston had all those assets and people thought they were gonna run the league. Yea that didn’t work out. they have decent talent in BOS. This is the first year you could maybe say he hasn’t done a great job.

I think the message is not working anymore in Boston and the Indiana job can bring him back home while keeping his NBA options open in the future

So do y’all think the Indiana program can be restored to previous glory? Or is it the Nebraska of the college basketball world?

The FO in Boston will be much more patient with him than the IU guys will.

I doubt he leaves.

Indiana still produces a lot of really good basketball players. They just need to keep them in state.

Nebraska does not produce a lot of elite football players, particularly at skill positions.

Yes it can be restored. Basketball is king in Indiana. You have rich recruiting territory from Gary in the Northwest to Indianapolis and all the medium to small places where kids play basketball all the time. From farm kids to suburban kids to city kids there is no shortage of basketball talent in Indiana. Way different from Nebraska football.

Indiana has been ranked #1 in the last 5 years, along with winning the big ten and making a sweet 16
Nebraska hasn’t come close to that equivalent in football since what 2001?

It’s basketball, so you don’t need 20+ players with great talent. They just need a couple of big time guys and some program players. Just look at how Virginia and Gonzaga stay consistently solid.

Basketball and football are completely different in that regard. Basketball only needs 5 players on the playing field and 14 people on the roster, not 22 players on the field and a roster of 85. Football is still far more regionally dependent than basketball is. There’s much more roster turnover of critical players in basketball. Football is more likely to lead to significant injuries making depth far more important.

If gonzaga, Kansas, etc can be yearly powerhouses in basketball anyone can.

IU just needs to keep the instate premium players home and they can be a top 15 program again.

Do they have the cash to afford 7M per? This sounds like Tennessee talking about how much they’ll pay a coach, and then trot out a contract that is on par with everyone else.

Yes they have that cash

Meijer Athletics
Skoldt
Mellencamp

All are huge boosters. I think they have enough to pay upwards of 8. I don’t think they should but they can

I've seen the Nebraska comparison thrown out before. Their situations seem like apples to oranges to me.

If you want to make a football comparison, Texas seems more appropriate. Blue bloods who have hired hot names recently, but got mediocre results far below the program's expectations. IU can be turned around with the right guy.

IU also has Chicago and Detroit within 4 hours and both are good talent bases. IU can win just needs the right coach. Texas analogy is more fit I agree.
