Plenty of teams did. The Buss family for example made a lot more while paying their players a lot more.

The Clippers ran a junior college level program for years when there was potential to do a lot more.

The Chargers will earn money if they can defer payments.

The Chargers are probably costing themselves (in public reputation, jersey sales, stadium negotiations, potential moving destinations) tens or hundreds times over what they might save by deferring a couple million to this player. We're talking about the NFL, not the WNBA.

This guy has the feel of a Vernon Gholston bust right now. Surprising be isn't betting on himself and that 2nd contract.

In the 80's and 90's the Lakers did not turn a profit the Clippers did though.

Lakers got their money outside of basketball.

Chargers are just ensuring that the people of SD aren't heartbroken when they leave town.

Are you stating that the chargers are losing money?

The revenue sharing in the NFL is insane compared to the NBA.

I don't understand why? The guy is trying to get what every other top 5 pick has gotten. If every other gamecock fan got a free t shirt every week you would want shirts too

Apparently Chargers insist on this but almost all other teams pick one or the other.

There has never been a pick this high that given up both. The charges are in the wrong here. I don't like bosa but good for him

I really don't care about the particulars of the negotiations..the fact that Bosa hasn't said frick it and gone to camp tells me he won't be worth a damn in the league. He's a marked man wherever he goes after this.

To decline that deal is insane at THIS point. He's a year behind now.

The fact that the Chargers haven't signed their pick, again, at this point tells me they aren't worth playing for.

I don't know why people don't understand that the Chargers are asking him to do something no other Top 5 pick has ever done under this CBA.

He would be the only one. Ever.

There's no way he or his agent should agree to that.

marked by whom?

the players who he's indirectly standing up for? i'm sure the NFLPA is fully supporting his stance

hell, he'll probably be more of a "marked man" if he gives in and sets this precedent

Yes but at some point he's hurting himself and he's losing money.

If you hold out so long that you lose money then what was the point of it all?

I think we know how cheap the Chargers are but Bosa has to take care of himself. At this point I think that means signing the contract, earning your keep then leaving SD the very first chance you get.

Would you sign an exclusive contract with your employer that was against industry standards and put you in a bad position? If not why are you selfish and a failure in your career?

I don't understand this "the employer is always right, and the employee should be just be happy to have a job regardless of treatment" attitude. I don't care that the players are millionaires. Through talent and hard work they have put themselves in that position. They have earned the right to get themselves a standard and relatively good deal.

I'm not sure how that could be possible once you fully understand the situation.

The Chargers are trying to change contracts for top 5 picks and using Bosa as an example. Bosa simply wants what every single top 5 pick under this CBA has received.

True, but sometimes its the principle of the matter.

I'm sure the NFLPA is heavily backing him here.

He would frick over every other Top 5 pick for the rest of the CBA if that happens. That isn't going to happen.

If the Chargers back down, nothing changes.

Obviously he's losing out, but their loss is bigger. He's taking a stance for the players. Bigger picture. Some other people will benefit from it.

The reasoning you have is part of why the players get screwed in the CBA.
