Name? I'd be surprised if anyone else went full Tiki Barber after the Strahan contract fallout, people kind of hold it against you if you insert yourself into someone else's financials.

The name I remember was Damien Woody I think. I saw the Tomlinson comment (out of context) but he's more than five years retired isn't he?

I think what the Chargers are probably doing is calling any bonus guaranteed while inserting clauses that mean they can reclaim some if they waive him... making it not guaranteed at all.

The vague claim earlier from one poster about the Chargers needed the spare cash right now was also pretty bizarre.

know what it is. If he gets released or option not picked up then he wouldn't get last 550.

So you think his player option is worth $550k?

They're also trying to call it a signing bonus while paying it out over the length of the contract and the first year not until the end of this year

I'll go look it up

I have a question about this contract/holdout from something I had read in June before mini camp

Reported that Bosa wants 5 years paid in 4 but doesn't want club option after 4 to possible double dip?

you know what that double dip nonsense is about right? the chargers trying to get two concessions from a player when no other team is getting more than one.

year after year the chargers find ways to piss off the players they draft. if this was a different organization then they would have a different level of credibility. But they don't. Because they always do this shite.

You need to read up on the current rookie structures.

Every 1st round pick gets 4 years, not 5
Every first round pick has an option that can be exercised by the team

That isn't negotiable

The double dipping is that if the Chargers cut him, let's say in year 3, he doesn't have his new salary offset the portion that the Chargers paid for year 4

But if he's cut/injured and resigned they're on the hook.

Emtman Mandarich and Carter are examples of protection they're looking for.

I get its rare and Chargers are being dumb. But you can't blame them either if that's their thinking.

I don't care if he signs or not. But he is the loser in this, no matter what now.

Yes. Nothing to do with a 5th year other than the offset comes into play if they don't pick up the option.

And the Bosa camp is fine with that if there isn't a deferred signing bonus

Then give the signing bonus upfront. First round picks are so incredibly valuable to organizations since 2011. It's ridiculous that they're being sticklers over that when it is the industry standard for that draft slot.

They're trying to redefine the industry

At this point I think playing for the Chargers would be awful. They don't treat their players or their fans right.

The respect given to Weedle was pathetic

1) the rookie salaries are way down from what they have been, the risk there is no different than from any other player you sign as a free agent who gets a guaranteed bonus.
2) if there were a free agency for rookies instead of a draft the highly touted rookies would get a lot more
3) if the Chargers are being dumb then why burn all this energy defending them?

Im all for Bosa taking a stand for what he believes is right but he's not going to win many fans in that lockerroom.

quote:

Legendary Chargers tight end Antonio Gates put in his two cents on the issue this week, telling the San Diego Union Tribune, "My advice to any player that's going through any kind of contract situation is that, at one point, you've got to be a man and you've got to understand that you've got to get ready to play."

And that logic is why the NFLPA is so pathetic and gets assraped in the CBA

And how did that relationship end? Was def appropriate to essentially cut him nonchalantly while he was in the tub.

How many incidents does this front office need before you remove your head from so far up your arse?

Keep on tarding

It is also kind of vague. It could be read to mean "work out and train to be ready from the first day when your contract is signed" - not sign a worse deal than you should get if you were drafted by anyone other than the Chargers.

If the poster wasn't claiming that was said in support of the Chargers I would assume it was a player positive statement about handle your business but be ready to handle your football as well. Is there context?

Don't be a clown. When one person can't get along with anyone that person is an a-hole. When one organization can't sign their players like any other franchise then that organization is run by idiots.

Seriously, is Donald Sterling their new FO?

You do know Donald Sterling turned profit when the rest wasn't?

Teams aren't built to always lose money or for our enjoyment. Sometimes the owners want to increase profits.
