I remember one time I'm batting against the Dodgers in Milwaukee. They lead, 2 - 1, it's the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two out and the pitcher has a full count on me. I look over to the Dodger dugout and they're all in street clothes.

Pretty sure Bob was the last of the true, old-school baseball announcers. Him, Vin, and all the others are now all gone .

This one hurts. Sad day for baseball. RIP to a true legend. We haven't just lost a baseball legend, we've lost one of the true personalities the game has ever seen. They don't make them like Bob anymore.

What a loss. The most entertaining man in baseball.

I still call front row seats, 'Bob Uekers'

"OH...I must be in the front rooowww."

One of a kind. And perhaps top ten all time guy I would have liked to have a beer with.

Was a great “play it straight” broadcaster too. (Baseball is still so much better on radio than it is on TV.)

Couldn’t hit a lick but actually was an excellent defensive catcher, Tim McCarver who was the starter when he was in St. Louis said Uecker had “soft hands,” a good arm and was good at framing pitches.

Directly responsible for putting Phil Niekro on the path to the Hall of Fame, the Braves wouldn’t give Niekro the ball as a starter until 1967 when he was 28 years old because the conventional wisdom was that knuckleball pitchers couldn’t be starters plus Joe Torre didn’t want to catch him, but Paul Richards who loved the knuckleball became GM, Uecker who had a sense of humor and didn’t care about a few passed balls raised his hand and said, “I’ll catch him,” and Niekro proceeded to lead the NL in ERA and the rest was history.

Niekro’s nickname for Uecker was “Chaser.” Hopefully they’re catching up on things right now.

He was a personal friend of mine.

I miss the Astros being in the same division as the Brewers because after moving to Louisiana I would make the two or three annual game series in Houston and be able to say hi to him.

The saddest part about him passing is that he never got to see the Brewers win a World Series.

He literally spent most of his time on a boat in Lake Michigan which made him extremely happy. He loved fishing.

Also, most know him from Major League and may not know that he's been the Brewers announcer from their inception in 1970.

I grew up with him, and will miss him dearly. He carried me through some very lean Brewers seasons, made me laugh and revel in his incredible stories.

If you get a chance, read his book, "Catcher in the Wry".

Will miss my friend and mentor.

NO!!! Didn't realize he was 90... For a guy to go from baseball player to comedian was a real jump... He did a great job with his comedy... He even had professional comedians in stiches...

I actually remember the Braves early years in Atlanta...1967. Joe Torre was my favorite player. But Uecker actually was Phil Niekro's catcher, because he could catch the knuckle ball. So I hated him because (a) when he played, Torre didn't, and (b) he couldn't hit his weight. Literally. His BA was under .150. I'm glad he had an amazing career as a broadcaster and gave me a reason to love him.

I'd read somewhere that even the people making the movie didn't know that when he got the part.

Maybe. Did you ever see him play?

Uecker led all NL catchers in errors in 1967...and he only started 48 games.

I was only 10 years old, but I still remember him as being an utterly atrocious baseball player. And a good thing, too. If had been any good as a player, he would have been playing in 1970 instead of broadcasting, and the Brewers would have hired someone else. And that would have been a shame.
