Predictably it'll be framed as racist Southern cops instead of what it really is, overzealous narcotics officers harassing out of state traffic on the interstate. It's not rare and it's not unique to black people.
All of this. I wish “racism” wasn’t always the first reaction.

We're ok with illegal searches now?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Smith College women's lacrosse team would not have had their belongings searched.
This is on the bus driver for not making a stink about it.
Last time I was asked to get out of my car I did so with my keys and locked the doors.
Oh they were mad on the inside
Yeah motherfricker, I know my rights.

I guarantee there is more to the story. Police don’t search a school bus with a lacrosse team for no reason.

Does Georgia need suspicion to search? If so what is the suspicion?
This. Offhand it sounds like cops on a power trip searching an entire bus, but I skimmed the article.

I’ve read enough of these stories to know when you’re only getting one side of it.

Meh, I've had a cop argue with me that declining a request to search vehicle is probable cause so I tend to be biased in these situations.

Maybe, just maybe, the bus smelled like weed?
Convenient how that was left out of the story.
To be fair, it's convenient that you just assume it did.

Yeah, I've seen my share as well. The cops are usually in the wrong.

Nah, screw those cops. If they would have found a gram, they would have impounded the team bus.
They can all Kiss my arse with the forfeiture of property. It's sanctioned theft and all thieves should be shot, even those with badges..

There are drug interdiction units along the interstates who watch cars come and go and pull them over for no reason but to search them.

But I also know when reading news stories like this, you’re often only getting a biased account of what happened. Too many times I’ve read stories like this that is meant to create an emotional reaction only to find out later there was more to it that was left out.

More times than not, you get the one side from the cops, because the police chief is usually in bed with the reporters.
