Ortiz shot in the lower back. Reports are saying he is out of danger and in stable condition

Yeah, it’s not realistic to move all his friends and family here when they probably don’t speak English and have spent all of their lives there. Coming to the US would feel like traveling to Mars or some other planet to them. It would be quite the culture shock.

Amazing if he comes out of this alive. That was point blank assassination attempt.

I know its home, but I never understood why these rich athletes go back to these poor caribbean islands.

Every year, it seems like some star is kidnapped and held for ransom or shite like this.

It's one thing if the video has been proven legit, completely another thing to run with unverified.

This is coming from as big a Boston Homer as you can find. Whomever shot him is basically fricked. Most of the US loves him, and literally all of the DC other than the guy who shot him does too.

I get what you're saying but has a star athlete really been kidnapped and held for ransom before? Or was that just a dramatic post?

I'm sincerely asking btw.

Wow that's crazy. I don't follow baseball so I had to look up who that was.

Because it’s where they grew up. And is where all their friends and family are.

I feel for the guy. The best plan once you make it out of whatever hood or shithole country you're from is to stay out. The DR is dangerous. There's been a rash of tourist deaths lately.

And that was 8 years ago before Venezuela was in it's current climate (but still under Hugo Chavez at the time). This past off season, MLB player Luis Valbuena was killed in a car crash in Venezuela after his vehicle hit a large rock placed in the road as a setup for a robbery (his ejected body was still pickpocketed). Many of the Venezuelan players have chosen not to return home given the instability of the country.

As for Papi, after watching that video, hes incredibly lucky to be alive. That guy walked up intending to kill him, had a point blank shot at his back and "fortunately" managed to put a shot through the lower abdomen.
