Dabo built Clemson from the ground up whereas Meyer inherited a gold mine at both Florida and Ohio State. You can talk about competition in the ACC all you want, but the fact remains Clemson is ready to play just about every week. His coaching style is definitely different from that of a Saban or a Meyer as he wears his emotions on his sleeves and isn't afraid to go nuts on the field after a big win. But we're talking about a guy who gave up on coaching after he and the rest of his fellow assistants were fired from Alabama in the wake of DuBose's disastrous 2000 season. He was selling real estate when Tommy Bowden came calling with a job offer. Now he's considered to be one of the best coaches in the game of football.

What Dabo has done at Clemson is nothing short of amazing.

They are going to be good forever under him, barring some sort of scandal.

Urban has 3 so I think it’s not Dabo yet. He gets another one and I have Dabo especially with recency taken into account

Saban is the GOAT

Dabo

And Clemson has always been a sleeping giant, just needed the right coach to build it.

Dabo is a great coach but Urban is one of the all-time greats. Accumulating an .853 winning percentage over 17 years as a HC is absolutely ridiculous.

I’d rather have Dabo than Urban as a coach, right now.

But Dabo needs a few more seasons under his belt before we can place him over what Urban has done.

To be fair, Urban won at Bowling Green and Utah, too. He's been successful right away at every place he's been. And 3 rings is hard to ignore.

Dabo didn't inherit a complete disaster at Clemson either. Bowden had talent, but couldn't do anything noteworthy with it. And it took Dabo a few seasons to really get them over the hump.

What Dabo has done is nothing short of remarkable though. He turned that program into a well-oiled machine that will continue being in the national conversation annually.

Dabo has proven to be in the top tier of active coaches but I do think he's kind of fallen into a perfect storm where he's hit on some superstar players like Watson (credit to his recruiting) and there's just no one capable of challenging them in their conference right now now that FSU is down.

He'd still be one of the best but I don't think he'd be having as much success in say the SEC or the Big 12 where there's at least 1 or two other programs yearly that can match them talent/coaching wise.

He will probably win five NCs or something, but I still think Dabo is a shuck and jive village idiot great recruiter that is basically a rich man's Ron Zook. Urbs for me right now.

Ehhh... I don't know about "sleeping giant"

The school is in SC, not the middle of Florida. Yes, it's near a lot of Georgia talent, but it ain't LSU, Ohio State, Texas, Florida, Miami, USC etc. Where you already sit in heart of a region with lots of talent that already wants to play for you.

Clemson was always a top 15-20 ish type recruiter, Dabo has elevated them to a top 5-10 type school lately. He's also hired, and for the most part kept, some very good coordinators and his AD is behind him in funding.

5-10? They've been Top 1-3 for 4 straight years. With 3 different qb's

Im not sure how this is even debatable.

The answer is unquestionably urban.

After Saban, I would rather have Dabo running my program over any other college head coach out there right now.

Urban inherited a mess of an Ohio St team that went 6-6 the previous year and was facing NCAA sanctions including scholarship reduction and a bowl ban, all stemming from the Jim Tressel situation. Urban did NOT inherit some 10 win team. Urban took that team over and led them from 6-6 to 12-0. Had Ohio St not been bowl banned, they would have played Notre Dame in the national championship and would have most likely won that game. You can say whatever about him as a person, I won't disagree with you, Swinney is a genuinely nice guy, but Urban as a coach is all time great.

Its debatable because the OP did not specify criteria for judgement. All time or right now. Right now, it’s Dabo, all time it’s Urban for the time being.
